“Not going tohappen.”

“You still loveher, though.”

“That doesn’ttake away from the fact I caught her in bed with a man old enough tobe her father.” He said gruffly, reaching for his wine again.“Her excuse still rings inside my mind.”

“You did leaveher to chase after stories all over the globe.” Allsion liftedher shoulders in a shrug. “I’m not making excuses forher, Michael, but you have to admit you were never there.”

“I was buildingmy career and I’m supposed to be your best friend.”

“Which means Ican tell you the God’s honest truth.”

Leaning back againstthe padded leather, he tried to relax. “Going away for almost ayear didn’t work, I’m still angry as hell.” Hishazel eyes collided with hers. “Perhaps we should ease our painby tumbling into bed.”

“Eew.’She shuddered delicately. “Now I’m going to have thatimage inside my head for a long time.”

His eyes glittered ather. “I’m not that bad in the sack.”

“Idon’t want to find out. You’re like my brother.”

His grimace had herlaughing. “You’re not good for my self-esteem.”

“Like you needany help with that. Are you going to talk to her?”

He shrugged. “Indue time. I’m not in a hurry to speak to her. She broke me intwo with her infidelity and that isn’t something I can faceright now.”

“Isn’t itfunny?”

“What?”

“If it was theother way around, she would reach out in forgiveness.”

His eyes narrowed atthat. “Would you?”

Taking a sip of herwine, she thought about it. “I might.”

“Yeah, right,”He snorted. “You dumped that asshole the minute you found outhe was cheating on you.”

“He wasn’tonly cheating; he was using the hard-earned profit to send hismistress to nursing school.” Her eyes glittered with temper.“Then he justified it by saying I didn’t have time forhim.”

“You’restill pissed.” Michael observed.

“I’m justmad I didn’t catch on sooner. He drove the company into theground.”

“Where‘sthe asshole now?”

“Working forsome two-bit company.”

“And you’rerunning the PR department of one of the most successful companies inthe world. That’s poetic justice for you. Has he reached out?”

“Several times.I finally blocked his number.”

He grinned inapproval. “Good for you.”

“The sad thingis, I wasted my time with a man I wasn’t in love with. Now, I’mwaiting for true love.”

He gave her askeptical look. “True love has a way of biting you in the ass.”

“I’m notlistening to you.” She told him serenely as she tackled herlobster. “You’ve been put off love because of whathappened.”
