He should be happy, but he was thirty-five years old and living in a converted warehousethat had been turned into a loft. Shaking his head angrily, hewondered where the hell all of this coming from. He spun around towalk over to the cabinet to pour a drink. He’d stop by Miriamand hope he could find the interest to spend the night.

Downing the rest ofhis drink, he grabbed his coat and headed out. Avoiding the partygoing on, he jumped into his private elevator and made his way downto the lobby.

He was on his way tohis vehicle parked in the slot when he noticed her inside hervehicle. His instinct told him to go straight to his vehicle, but shecame out as he was making his way past her vehicle.

“Somethingwrong?” He asked her brusquely.

“I must haveleft my headlights on.” She said with a frustrated sigh. “Itappears that my battery is dead.”

“Where’sthe boyfriend?” The minute the words were out of his mouth, hewanted to take them back.

Ignoring him, shewent around the back to open the door.

“What are youlooking for?”

“I always keepa jumper cable-“ Popping back up, she dragged the jacket aroundher. “I forgot that I left it at home when I was cleaning thecar. I’m going to call Uber.”

“I’lltake you home.’ He told her tersely.

“Oh no. Please,I’ll just- “

“I’lltake you home. Lock up. I’ll call my mechanic to come out andchange the battery. He’ll drive the vehicle home as soon ashe’s through.”

“I can’tlet you to do that.”

Ignoring her, heturned away to make the call. “He’ll be here in the nexthour. Let’s go.”

She hesitated briefly and thenfollowed him toward the Porsche parked in the slot.

Careful not to brushagainst him, she managed to slide past him when he opened thepassenger door for her to get in. Closing her eyes in amazement, sherelished the heat shooting over her skin.

“Did you leavethe vehicle unlocked?”

“Yes.”

“Good.”Strapping on his seatbelt, he shoved the stick into reverse and shotout of the lot.

“I need theaddress.” He told her after a few minutes silence.

“Oh. Ofcourse.” She rattled it off and he programmed it into his GPS.

“I need to makea stop at my place to pick up a few things. I won’t be long.”

“I’llwait in the car.”

He gave her asizzling look before turning away to concentrate on the road. Allisonwas uncomfortable. The interior of the luxurious car was cozy and shewas finding the space too confined. She should have called an Uberand not accepted the ride. Now, it was too late, and he was going tohis place.

“It was a niceparty.” She blurted out.

“Why are youleaving early?” He pointed out without looking at her.

“I had aheadache and wanted to be alone.”

“Really?”His lips curled into a cynical smile as he glanced at her again. “Itseemed to me you were having the time of your life.” Belatedly,he realized his statement meant he’d been paying attention toher.

“I was. You, onthe other hand stood in one place, except when you made that speechthanking your staff for the work they did over the past year.”She slid him a glance, her smile teasing. “It sounded as if youwere reading from a script.”

He gave her a briefglance as he made the turn leading to his loft and felt his heartpicking up speed. Driving into the lot, he parked the vehicle and satthere staring in front of him. He was going to make the biggestmistake of his life, but he couldn’t help it.
