"I’m notgoing to be controlled."

Her anger explodedand she wanted to lash out at him. Taking a deep breath, she foughtto get her emotions under control. He’d been through a lot, shereminded herself. He was emotionally scarred as well, she had toremember that. "I’m not her." She said quietlyinstead.

"I know. It'sjust that-"

"You’re soscrewed up; you don’t trust anyone. I get it."

"I’msorry." He said abruptly, shifting his eyes away from her. "Iknow you’re nothing like her."

"If this is toomuch, we could call it quits and go back to our originalarrangement."

"Is that whatyou want?"

She felt thefrustration bubbling over. "I want what makes you comfortable. If being with me this way doesn't then I think we should stop."

"No.' He closedhis eyes briefly. "I keep screwing up. I don't know how tobehave in a relationship."

"Is that whatthis is?"

"Isn't it?"He countered.

"I thought wewere just having fun." She waited for him to say otherwise andwhen he kept silent, she felt her heart breaking into pieces. "Thisis getting too heavy," She continued, pasting a smile on herlips. "We don't want that."

He looked at her, hisface expressionless. "I don't want to stop."

"Then we won't."Taking her hand, she drew her into his arms. "We should makebetter use of the time."

"You don't haveto come."

"Oh, I wouldn’tmiss it for the world." She told him airily, referring to theinvitation to Sunday dinner his mother had extended. "Should wetell her the relationship has gone past surrogacy?"

"Of course not."

"She’sgoing to realize we’re not just friends, Dion. She’s asmart woman."

"We don’tgive her any details."

"We couldn’thave it be known we’re screwing each other silly every night."She said dryly.

"I – I’mnot ready."

"Got it."

"You’remad."

"Am I?"

"I know you,Odette, and I can see you’re mad." It was Saturday nightand she was at his place.

"You think youknow me?"

"What’sthat supposed to mean?" He demanded.

Propping the pillowsagainst the headboard, she gazed at him. He was sprawled on his back, completely naked. "It means-" She finally responded. "Thatyou think you do. I’m not that open a book for you to read."

"That doesn’tmake any sense. I’ve known you a long time."
