"Hey."

"Hey, you. Whatare you up to?”

“I’m justleaving the nursing home."

"You changedyour mind."

"I did. Lydiatalked me into going."

"And?" Dionsat on the side of the bed and stretched his legs out. He wanted tohear her voice.

"I no longerhave the urge to strangle him. I guess being pregnant is mellowingme."

"Will you go andsee him again?"

"I promised Iwould. I might not pop by and see him every week, but I’ll gonow and again. How about you? You sound tired."

He laughed softly.Sliding further onto the bed, he laid back against the pillows. "Whyis it I can’t seem to hide anything from you?"

"Why would youwant to?" The surprise in her voice made him smile.

"Even before webecame lovers, you always knew what was going on."

"That's becausewe’ve always been attuned to each other. Now what's going on?"

"The red tapeand bureaucratic BS is getting to me. I might have to extend my visitto a week and I didn’t want to do that."

"You are theon-point guy in all of this, you have to do what you have to do."

"It doesn’tmean I have to stay away from you."

"Dion-"

"Hear me out."His heart raced as the idea took flight. "You’re workingon your designs and that can be done from anywhere. I need you here,Odette, with me." He took a deep breath. "I don't care ifit comes out we’re a couple. I think it's time it does anyway."

"Are youprepared for the repercussions?"

"I don't careabout that. We’re a couple and I don't want to hide anymore. Wecould go take in a show and I want you to take a look at thebuilding. I have such grand plans for the display windows, and I wantto run it by you. What do you say? I could send the jet-"

"No. I’llfly commercial."

"You’recoming?"

"Are you sure?"

"I am,absolutely."

"Can I thinkabout it?"

"Why are youhesitating?" He demanded. "I thought this was what youwanted."

"I want to beabsolutely sure it’s what you want." She countered.

"It is." Heinsisted. "Look, I’m not where you want me to be yet, butI’m getting there. All I know is I need you. You steady me,Odette, you make me calmer and more rational. I sat in a series ofmeetings and wanted to blow my top.

I managed to keep ittogether because I was thinking about you. I’m always thinkingabout you and it scares me." He rubbed a hand at the back of hisneck. "I-I’m frightened over what’s happening but Iwant to be with you."

"You want methere to hold your hand."
