"I want to holdhim."

"Darling, he’ssleeping."

"I won't wakehim. I just want to feel him in my arms."

"All right."Letting go of her hand, he rose and went over to carefully take hisson out of the cot. The baby stirred slightly and opened his eyes tostare at his father. Bending his head, Dion kissed his foreheadgently. "Here’s your brave Mama."

"Hi, darling."Love swamped Odette as she cradled him in her arms, careful tosupport his head. "Hi there, Demar Horton, you caused Mommy alot of trouble, but it was worth it." Lifting her head, she gaveher husband a tremulous smile. "Thank you."

His heart flippedover inside his chest. "That's my line."

She shook her head asshe gazed at her baby again. "It's not one-sided, darling. Yes,you were the one who approached me with the arrangement, but by thetime I realized I was pregnant, it dawned on me that this was whatI’d been longing for - a family." The tears were rollingdown her cheeks.

Shifting hisposition, he moved to sit slightly behind her so he could put his armaround her. Leaning her head against his chest, they continued togaze at the baby until his long lashes drifted over his eyes.

"He’s goneback to sleep." She whispered.

"He’stired, and so are you. You need to get some rest. Here, let me-"

He took the baby fromher and put him back into the cot.

"Stay."

"As if I wouldleave." Climbing back on the bed, he took her into his arms andkissed the top of her head. "I’m here baby. I’malways here." He whispered as she snuggled against him.

"It's sowonderful to be home." Odette exclaimed as she sat down on thecomfortable chair that was part of the furnishing in their son'snursery. They’d spent two weeks in New York because it’dtaken that long for them to travel with the baby. During that time, the couple had visited the store to see the results first hand.

The papers were stillraving about the beauty of the place and the quality of the itemsoffered. An article about the delivery of their baby had also beenincluded, but the couple had refused to have their son's pictureplastered all over the papers and the internet.

It was late afternoonand the visitors had left for the day. A nanny had been hired to helpwith the baby, but she wouldn’t be starting until the next twoweeks. "I want to spend some bonding time with him first."Odette had stated firmly and her husband had agreed.

Now they were insidehis nursery watching him sleep. He was surprisingly good when it cameto his nap time and after the first week had settled into a routinewhere he goes to sleep at nine p.m. and wake up at dawn allowing themto get some sleep.

Turning in herhusband's arms, she wrapped her arms around his neck. She was fullyrecovered and it was as if the ordeal of giving birth to their sonhad never happened. She was taking leave from work in order to spendtime with her son and husband.

The designs featuredin the store had been such a success that the orders for more keptcoming in. "You know, it's strange," She murmured with ashake of her head.

"What'sstrange?" He asked her gently. She was wearing a beautiful creamsilk robe and still had on the magnificent diamond and emeraldnecklace he’d given her with as soon as they returned.

"That we spentmost of our lives being friends and never realizing that we belongedtogether."

"I think we weremeant to be and everything we went through had been a twisted pathwayto each other." He said solemnly. "I knew you were the onlyone I wanted to carry my child, the only one I could trust to do thatfor me."

"And look whereit brought us." She glanced over at the sleeping baby. He wasfast asleep, long lashes making shadows on his coffee and creamcomplexion and as usual, his little fists were resting near his head.

Sparse dark brownhair covered his head and she could see his even breathing. Turningher head to look at her husband, she gave him a smile as her handstightened around his neck.

"Where has itbrought us, darling?" He whispered as he drew her closer to him.

"To a worldwhere it seems right." Her hands cupped his face, her expressionone of love and contentment. "To a slice of heaven on earth."She couldn’t stop the tears from coming. "To the man Ilove with my entire being."

"To more thanjust a slice of heaven," He concluded thickly as he drew her infor a kiss. "To so much more than that."
