“I’m not playing any games. I’m not going to hurt you anymore.”

“I don’t believe you.”

“I know.” He grasps my face with his hands. “But it’s the truth.”

“I can’t just forget everything you did.”

“I don’t want you to forget. But can’t you at least try to forgive me? I know what I did was wrong, going after Justin, buying your stocks without telling you. I was arrogant and stupid, but I swear I’ve learned my lesson.”

Adele’s “Hello” begins to play in the background and it’s like the song is screaming at me, echoing Gabriel’s words.

“How can I trust you really mean what you’re saying?” I ask.

His thumbs brush my cheeks. “Because the past fifteen days without you have been the most miserable of my life, because I love you with all my heart, because I didn’t mean to break your trust the first time and I’ll be damned before I lose you a second time. You’re my person, Blake. You’re my forever.”

Tears spill down my cheeks. I try to blink them back.

“I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness,” he says. “But I want to spend the rest of my life trying to earn it.”

I look up and into his eyes, dark eyes that wash me with tenderness, love, and a promise I want to believe.

I don’t want to think about anything else. Tonight, the past, or the future.

I only want to live in this moment with him.

I lean up and press my lips against his, tasting him, feeling the familiar warmth of his mouth and the touch of his hands on my cheek.

He kisses me back and I feel alive in his arms. This kiss is like diving into a pool of memories of tomorrow. I want to remember the trips we’ll make to his cottage, the nights we’ll spend in bed holding each other, the days we’ll become a family, the years we’ll grow old together. I want to remember everything.

And this is the moment I realize he means more than everything else. I could lose my company and still live a happy life. I’ve built an empire, I could build another. But I will never find another Gabriel.

Yes, he could hurt me again—willingly or not. He could die in a car accident tomorrow and leave me heartbroken for all eternity. But even a single minute with him is worth all the risks.

I pull back and look at him.

His face is relaxed; I don’t even have to say what I’m thinking, he already knows.

But I still say it. “You’re my person, too. I want to spend forever with you.”

EPILOGUE

BLAKE

Nine months later

At 3a.m., my phone vibrates on the nightstand. Already awake, I reach out for it.

It’s Marissa.

“Hey,” I pick up.

An inhuman groan greets me on the other side, followed by a quick series of breath intakes. “My waters broke,” Marissa announces once she’s able to talk again.

“You were supposed to be six more days, you little overachiever, why do you always have to be first at everything?”

“Can we not do this now?”

“Are you already at the hospital?”
