She came to one of my classes

From Gabriel

Yeah, she mentioned she’s a fan

Hope you didn’t leave her as wrecked as I still feel

To Gabriel

Your mom knows her domain

She didn’t overdo it

From Gabriel

I sense a jab in those words

To Gabriel

No jabs, just truths

From Gabriel

Oh, Mom’s calling me

Guess I’m about to get the full scoop on your meeting

To Gabriel

She probably just wants to gush about the awesomeness of my training skills

Let me know what she says, customer feedback is very important for us at Bloominghale

I wait a heartbeat, two. But MGM doesn’t reply.

Half an hour passes with still no response. Even if the call with his mom was on the long side, it should be over by now. MGM isn’t replying, period.

Customer feedback is very important. What a lame message to send. I wouldn’t reply either.

Or maybe he’s too busy managing his multi-billion empire to reply. Right, I also have better things to do myself than wait by the phone like a teenager with a crush.

I slam my phone onto my desk screen-down and power up my computer. I hate the feeling of disappointment that he didn’t flirt with me today or that he didn’t renew his invite to take me on a date. Another sign that I made the right decision last night. Not dating the man is already causing me more stress than getting ready to take my company public. I definitely don’t need to get burned right now.

Still, throughout the day, I can’t help throwing longing stares at the black screen of my phone, hoping it’ll light up with another text from him. Or jump whenever a new notification pops up, trying to fight the sinking feeling of disappointment when it’s not from him.

I’m so distracted, I take twice as long to do my usual work. Another point in favor of keeping MGM solidly out of my life. So much so that by 8p.m. that night, I’m still in the office trying to sort through trainers’ CVs to decide who to hire to be a second me when the business side of things keeps me out of the studio. One CV in particular is calling to me. Catalina Morales has over ten years of ballet experience, was a former backup dancer for a few name-drop celebrities, and she’s an ex-elite gymnast. And she also has a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Exercise Science—when did she find the time to get those? And she’s attained various certifications to work with people with mental and physical disabilities. She’s perfect.

I do a quick online search for her. Catalina’s Instagram profile is the first thing that pops up: 400k followers. Not bad. As I scroll through a few reels of her doing some basic workout routines, a notification pops up, distracting me.

Thomas Mercer has liked your reel.

Now MGM’s entire family is hounding me. How will I ever get him out of my head?

Shut up and repeat after me, a voice chants in my head. We’re not into MGM.

Nope. Not even tempted.

The thought has barely left my mind when there’s a soft knock on my door and Tilly sneaks in, whispering, “You have a visitor.”
