The others were silent for a moment. I’d been far more open and vulnerable than I’d intended. Had that been a mistake?

“Aw,” J.D. said. “Okay, bro, you’ve done it. Full one-eighty for me. I’m a Kwyatt fan again, a hundred percent. You two belong together. That’s really sweet, man. I know you guys have been pissy with each other lately, but you’re meant to be with Kira. One hundred percent.”

“Wait, wait, wait,” Abel said. “Hang on. I get having a falling out, but you two were fucking other people.” He turned and looked at J.D. incredulously. “Like, dude, she just had sex with you. Then a few hours later, she’s fucking Wyatt. Now you’rerootingfor her to be with him. None of this makes any sense.” Abel’s voice sounded like he was on the verge of having a nervous breakdown from confusion.

“I’m not buying it,” Tate said. “His littleI-love-her-but-she-doesn’t-love-me-backsob story doesn’t hold water with me. It sounds like a load of horseshit. You are a lone wolf. We found that out a few minutes ago. That’s fucking disgusting, I might add.”

Looking over my shoulder, I glared at Von. He smiled back and shrugged in a “who me?” sort of way.

“You and Kira did this to try and get into the First Pack,” Tate continued ranting. “She’s all the way down in the Eleventh Pack, and you’re in an unofficial pack full of mutts. You twisted this whole thing to get the prize and screw the rest of us over. Admit it.”

“Kira wouldn’t do something like that,” Gavin snapped, getting right in Tate’s face.

Tate, finally turning his ire from me, grinned maliciously at Gavin. “Gods, bro. You haven’t even seen her naked yet and you’re already pussy-whipped. Damn.” He wrinkled his face in disgust and took a step back from Gavin. “Whatever. You guys can have the lying bitch. From here on out, I’m after Chelsey. I don’t know what to believe anymore, but it looks like she’sactuallyhere for a mate.”

Heading for the door, Tate made sure to shoulder-check me as he went, making me stumble back. Hot, vicious anger welled up inside me, and my wolf gnashed his teeth, ready to fight. It took every ounce of self-control not to attack the other alpha. Shaking with rage, I clenched my fists and let him go.

“Cut!” Von shouted in giddy excitement. The hovering cameras swooped out of the room and into the hallway. “That was exactly what I’d hoped for! You guys were perfect.”

“Glad we could be of service,” Gavin snapped, his angry gaze still locked on my face.

“I need to get Chelsey’s reaction,” Von said. He pulled his phone out and swiped a few times. “It’s looking very interesting, Wyatt. The viewers are really torn. The voting on whether to send you home or keep you is neck and neck.”

“Like that matters,” I retorted. “You guys already decided we were staying.”

Von swatted my comment away like a pesky fly. “No matter. Anyway, I’m going to find Chelsey. Don’t forget, gentlemen, the arena match is soon. We can’t be late for that.”

“Don’t wanna be late for our own funeral, right?” Mika asked sarcastically.

Von was too busy scrolling his phone to take in those words. “Yes, Mr. Sheen, very good.” The vampire finished whatever he was doing and tucked his phone into his pocket again, returning his attention to us, that game-show host smile reappearing. “I think we really have something here. This is already the highest-rated season ever, and it’s only going to get better with the new twists we’re adding. Especially now that we have all thisaggressivealpha energy bouncing around. Ah, it’s going to be so much fun. See you all at the arena match.” Without another word, he vanished out the door.

So much fun? For Von, that meant backstabbing, blood, and danger. If I had to guess, the rest of the show would be a wet dream for him. Unless Kira and I could change things.

I had to hope we could, now that the crosshairs were firmly on our heads.

Chapter9

Kira

“Follow me,” the witch said as Von and Wyatt went downstairs to the alpha den.

“I know where my room is,” I said.

She sniffed. “Well, that may be, but you’ve shown a propensity for going places you shouldn’t. As well as doing things andpeopleyou shouldn’t.”

“Excuse me?” I rounded on her, my nostrils flaring. How dare she?

She gave me a bored, tired look. “Sweetie, don’t take it personally. I’ve worked on this show for fifteen years. You aren’t the first female lead who liked toget around,if you know what I mean.”

“That’s not… I didn’t… ugh, you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about,” I sputtered, caught off-balance.

“I know. It’s very difficult. All these virile and sexy shifters, the sexual tension. It’s tough.” She glanced around to make sure we were alone, then leaned in conspiratorially. “I’ll tell you a secret. In my first season here—newly divorced, mind you—I had a bit of heartache to contend with. I was forty-three years old and wide-eyed from the spectacle of it all. Things moved quickly, and the mansion buzzed with sexual energy. Well, I may or may not have given the male lead a little,” she nudged me with her elbow, “you know, oral satisfaction. It happened one afternoon after I’d healed him from an arena match. It was all very sudden and exciting, but it made a middle-aged woman feel like a kid again. It was delightful, honestly. Especially when he reciprocated—”

“Ew! Please, can we stop talking?”

She shrugged, and we continued down the hall to my room. The mental image of this almost sixty-year-old woman sucking off some shifter nearly two decades ago wouldn’t stop playing in my brain. Would everyone back home look at me the way Tate had? Like some opportunistic hussy who wanted to screw and thenscrewoverthe alpha contestants? Would Wyatt and I be hated and despised when we went home? Dear gods, what would Kolton think? My parents? They must have seen the footage of Wyatt and me practically naked. Even if I managed to get out of this fucking show alive, how would my family react?

“Home sweet home,” the witch said, gesturing to the now-repaired door.
