Page 45 of Escaping Rejection

“Come, baby. Come for me.” I slipped a hand between my legs to rub my clit.

His motions grew erratic and spastic, and then he cried out in exultation as he came deep within me. His release sent the next wave crashing over me, making ice and fire course through my veins. This time, I did slide to the floor, though Wyatt did his best to keep me from falling. His cock slid out of me, and a moment later, I lay on my back, water raining down on me as pleasure pulsed through me. Nothing had ever felt so good.

Wyatt knelt, joining me on the tile floor, kissing my body—shoulders, chest, nipples. His lips caressed me as his hands ran the length of my body. I reached between his legs and stroked his side lovingly.

“That was amazing,” he whispered, his breath hot against my ear.

“I would joke that I’ve had better, but that would be a lie.”

We collapsed into giggles before getting our senses back. After a few minutes of cuddling under the water, we finally stood and turned off the water. I dried him with a towel, and he did the same for me. The massive walk-in closet held several robes in various sizes, and once we were both wrapped up, we stepped out into the bedroom, Wyatt’s hand lingering on my back.

The TV in the room flashed with one word:Message. The big red letters filled me with trepidation, but I grabbed the remote and pushed play. Better to know than not know. Von’s face appeared on screen, and the lovely post-coital bliss I’d been experiencing vanished in an instant.

“Good afternoon, everyone. A quick message for our hard-working contestants. The remainder of the afternoon and this evening will be yours to experience as you’d like. It was, after all, averyintense morning and early afternoon. We think you all could use a little rest.

“In case you were wondering, tomorrow will not be quite as dramatic. Prepare yourselves for a Q&A session with fan questions, along with a smaller challenge in the jungle later in the afternoon. Rest up and enjoy. Dinner will be served at six, but if you’d like the staff to provide room service this evening, all you need to do is call with your requests.

“Until then, we’ll put on the video replay of this afternoon’s festivities. I have to tell you all, that was a fantastic job. From our fans’ reactions, that may have been one of the most successful challenges in our history. Even without an elimination, the fans went wild for it.” Von winked. “See you all soon.”

The screen shifted to a shot of Wyatt walking into the ballroom, Von at his side. My curiosity got the better of me, and part of me wanted to see what I’d missed. How close had Wyatt really come to dying? Before the video could go much further, Wyatt yanked the remote from my hand and turned off the TV.

“I do not want to experience that again,” Wyatt said, tossing the remote onto the bed.

“I kind of wanted to know how bad it was,” I said. “I sort of feel bad I wasn’t there.”

“Don’t,” Wyatt said. “It was bad, but there’s no need to worry about it.”

I sighed and waved at the screen. “I was up here, literally napping, while you all were down there, fighting for your lives. Wouldn’t you feel a little guilty if the roles were reversed?”

He took in my words, and I could see I’d hit the truth. He knew he’d be racked with guilt if I’d had to go up against that monster while he was knocked out in bed.

“Yeah, you’re right,” he said. “Watch it later when I’m not here or something. I can’t relive that panic. Right now, I just want to be with you. I don’t care if we’re arguing or on that bed going for round two. As long as I get to spend some time with you, I’ll feel better. No stupidReject Projectmessing with my head.”

“Round two?” I repeated, raising an eyebrow.

Wyatt grinned and opened his mouth to say something, but then a knock interrupted us. His face fell as he realized the same thing I did—the universe had a perverse sense of humor.

The knock came again, more insistent, followed by a voice calling from the other side. “Kira? Hey, are you okay? Are you in there?”

Ugh, Gavin.

“For crap’s sake. I’ve had it with this guy,” Wyatt growled. He looked mad enough to bite through steel.

“Let me go talk to him. He’ll never leave otherwise,” I said, cinching my robe tighter and walking toward the door.

I left the security chain on but unlocked the deadbolt. Opening the door as far as the chain would allow, I found Gavin outside, looking anxious.

He sighed in relief at the sight of me. “Oh, thank the gods. You’re okay. Can I come in?”

“Uh…” I glanced over my shoulder. Wyatt sat on the far side of the room at the corner of the bed, unseen from Gavin’s vantage point. “I don’t know that now is the best—”

“I know Wyatt’s here. Okay? I know,” Gavin said. The words pained him, but he wasn’t devastated or heartsick. Maybe disappointed, but otherwise, he was fine.

“Right,” I said. “It’s still not a great idea. Was there anything else you came to say?”

“Well, yeah, actually.” He came closer, face almost in the eight-inch opening. “I don’t care that Wyatt is here. I still think you and I can make this work. I get it—you’ve known him for a long time, emotions are running high, and things happen. I don’t want you to end up with someone who isn’t right for you just because of this stupid show. People do things they aren’t proud of when they’re stressed.”

It was all I could do not to roll my eyes. “Gavin, I don’t think you really get what’s happening.”
