“You in there? It’s time for dinner!” August’s voice called behind the door. “We’re gonna eat, like, fish eggs and shit. Whatever rich people have.”

Wyatt flopped back on the bed, releasing a frustrated sigh. “I swear to the fucking gods, I’m gonna kick him out of the pack. He can be so annoying.”

I giggled and dragged him from the bed. “Come on. Let’s go. Dinner awaits, and my stomach is about to eat itself.”

“I’m starving, too,” Wyatt said, eyeing me like I was a juicy steak. “But not for food.”

“If you’re a good boy, maybe you can have dessert later.”

“We’ll meet you down there,” Wyatt called out to August through gritted teeth.

“Cool. See you in a minute,” August said.

Once we were in the hall, Wyatt led me down the stairs toward the dining room. My stomach flipped at the delectable scents wafting toward us, and my mouth watered. The faintmumble of conversation echoed from the dining room, and when we stepped through the threshold, I saw that all the others were already there. Our friends, Wyatt’s dad, and another figure I didn’t recognize—a pretty woman in her early thirties.

Wyatt jerked to a stop, and I immediately sensed the blinding rage and disgust flashing through his mind at the sight of the woman.

“What the fuck are you doing here, Serenity?”

August, who had just popped a roll into his mouth, froze, his eyes going as wide as bowling balls. He slid his gaze to the woman sitting beside Lawrence.

Serenity smiled seductively and patted the seat beside her. “Come sit, Wyatt. We have some catching up to do, don’t we?” The woman lifted a flirtatious eyebrow. “I won’t bite unless you want me to.” She glanced at me and gave a pitying smile. “You can leave the tramp from the low pack at the other end of the table where she belongs.”

The audacity of this bitch. I released Wyatt’s hand and stalked around the table toward her. The look on my face made her flinch in surprise. Crew and Eli both tensed, ready for trouble, and Wyatt’s father had the decency to look confused. These two must have assumed theirupper-packintimidation would cow a lowly female like me. If that had been their game, then they were sorely mistaken.

Serenity stared up at me as I stood directly beside her chair.

“You may not bite, but I do.” I leaned down, putting my face near hers. “Normally, I would ignore this sad, and”—I glanced down at the low-cut dress and her tits that were almost flopping out—“desperatelysluttyattempt to get even a passing glance from a wolf whom you treated like shit all those years ago. I can’t ignore it, though. Maybe Wyatt can forgive you one day for messing with his head when he was a kid, but I don’t have to.” Pressing my face even closer, forcing her to lean away from me, Iadded, “If you ever cross my pack or Wyatt’s again, I’ll show you how well a lower-packalphafemale can ruin you. Bloodstone Island will look like a playground compared to what I’ll do to you.”

Lawrence adjusted himself in his chair. “Ladies, this isn’t necessary.”

“Andyou,” I said, shifting my ire from Serenity to him. “Wyatt and I are fated mates. We’ve claimed each other, and that isn’t changing. Maybe one day, you can yank your rich head out of your ass and realize you may actually want to get to know the amazing man who is your son. Look at him as a real person with his own wants and desires and successes, rather than trying to fit him into this stupid fucking world you think is perfect. Until then? Fuck off.”

The servers appeared in the doorway from the kitchen, freezing at the sight of our standoff.

“Oh, good,” I said, walking toward them. “There’s a to-go option.”

Yanking two plates from the hands of one of the servers, I turned to the hallway leading back to our room, nodding at Wyatt to follow me.

“Good night, everyone,” I said to Crew, Chelsey, Eli, and August. The four looked surprised, amused, and uncomfortable with what they’d witnessed. “Enjoy your dinner.” I cast a baleful look at Serenity and Lawrence. “If you can stomach the company.”

Wyatt didn’t say anything as we headed back to the room. I sensed his anger at his father and his disgust at seeing Serenity, but I also felt a surge of pride and happiness at what I’d done and said. Those emotions were far stronger in Wyatt’s mind than any other. A pleased smile came over my face as we headed back into our room.

Once there, I set the food down and locked the door. “I cannot believe your father invited that bitch here.” I wanted to punch something. No, I wanted to punch that bimbo downstairs. I’d have loved to slug her like I did Callista. “She’s got some fucking nerve to try and—”

My words were cut off by Wyatt scooping me up and pressing his lips to mine. His emotions flooded into me as the kiss deepened.

“That temper of yours,” he said when he broke away. “I’ve always liked it—when it wasn’t aimed at me. It means more to me when you do stuff like that, claiming me so publicly. I think my inner wolf likes it even more.”

I sighed and ran my fingers across his shoulders. “I lose my cool when I see you being mistreated. I’m not going to apologize for that.”

“I don’t want you to,” he said. “So, about that dessert? Can we have that before dinner?”

Grinning, I leaned forward and kissed him again. Wyatt’s lips crushed against mine as we allowed the lust and desire to take over. Hungry and demanding, our hands roved over each other’s bodies, and a deep, overwhelming need to have him ignited in my chest.

Our new bond as fated mates plunged me over a cliff of sensation and emotion. His longing and need flooded from his mind into mine, sending my own emotions into a raging fire, like gasoline being thrown onto a torch.

Wyatt wrapped his arms around my waist and carried me to the bed. I tugged at his shirt, trying to get him naked. Once on the mattress, I nearly ripped his clothes off him.
