Chapter 1

Dustin

I stood in the club and watched the luminescence above my head swirl, reminding me of the northern lights. And despite how tranquil it felt to watch, it made me question why I even came tonight.

I had a perfectly good human waiting in my room who was more likely than not excited for me to return. My succubus charms had worked quite well on her before I left. Yet, for some estranged reason, I was here torturing myself, watching the endless buffet before me.

There dancing in the crowd was a sea of delicious desperation that taunted me, but I tried not to get lost in the idea of feeding. However, as the smell danced on my nose, I felt my stomach rumble against my suit, reminding me how badly I wanted the brunette in my bed, whose name still availed me.

Jessica, perhaps?

Or maybe it was Jamie.

I hadn’t fed for a few hours now, and while that wasn’t entirely uncommon for a succubus, it was odd for me considering lately I had eaten about as frequently as a human, two to three times a day.

It was only because I was getting bored, which was dangerous, or at least for the poor soul unlucky enough to wind up in my line of sight.

For instance, the girl in my room didn’t know what I had done to her until it was too late.

I had run into her in a grocery store, I think. Or maybe it was a coffee shop, not that it mattered. And as her eyes glanced in my direction for only a second, she instantly becamemine.

That was all it took.

Hunger flashed in her eyes as it had in the eyes of a thousand others who all grew lost in a need that made all of their being want to please me in any way I saw fit. It was almost like an itch you couldn’t scratch, pulling at you until the charms fizzled out.

It was cruel, really, but so was life. And I didn’t make the rules. This was just how it was for our kind.

Sometimes, if they were stronger, it would take more than a glance, but rather a single touch to drive them madly in love, but that was a rarity, especially among the humans. The feelings of love or lust would fade from them eventually, assuming they survived past it and I hadn’t pulled too much from them.

However, after living on a diet of sexual energies for a hundred years or so, you grow tired of the same thing for dinner every night. Because of that, I had noticed an uptick in cravings. A hunger that was insatiable, draining them to the point of death.

And while I didn’t care for the life of these humans, that insatiable lust was known to trigger the Incubus Curse.

Those cursed with the unquenchable hunger of an Incubus were said to have lost all sense of human feelings, thoughts, and reason. They were no better than rabid dogs, which was why I was trying to curb my sense of boredom lately, but the cravings had been getting the better of me.

So, here I was, trying my hardest to act like I was not starving. Like my mind wasn’t constantly thinking of all the delicious things I could be tasting rather than being cooped up in this club, and it felt like I was torturing myself.

Fate had other ideas of torturing me further.

I could see a ball of curly red hair bouncing towards me as Fiona drunkenly stumbled into the red velvet taped-off section I was standing in.

Fiona was an old friend - if you could call her that – and happened to be a vampire I had met long ago. I had forgotten she always came to clubs like these.

Human clubs, that is.

I had fed off her from time to time in the past, or we’d share a human. Of course, my feedings were much different than hers.

She fed off blood, and- well- I fed off sexual emotions, energies, and sensations.

And don’t get me wrong, we had our fair share of fun times back in the day, but I grew bored of her. Just like I grew bored of most things. Honestly, finding anything new and exciting seemed to be a challenge these days.

Her eyes smiled kindly to my mother and father and then turned to me with a look I knew all too well. It was a look of desperation blending with lust, and it almost gave me chills. The red in her hair and eyes practically glowed against her brown, dewy skin as shimmers of gold flecks sparkled off her. Her golden dress slit down her chest, revealing her enough that it made my mind revel in memories, even if it was justfor a split second.

“What are you doing all alone?” She hiccupped in my direction, reeking of silver tongue while pressing her hand against my chest as her claw-like nails dug into my shirt, poking through the buttons as if trying to reach for the hair on my chest.

I was more surprised to notice she could even get a drink of silver tongue in a human club like this.

“Thought for sure you’d be one of the guys hitting on some poor human girl. I mean, have you seen them? Looks like there are some good ones for us to play with tonight.” She could barely talk without slurring her words.
