The screams must have been deafening because all I couldhear was loud ringing as everything else seemed to quiet. I tried to run like everyone else but realized I was frozen in fear. It was as if my feet were glued to the ground.

As I panicked, my heart began pounding like a sledgehammer. My blood was boiling as I internally screamed at myself to move. To run. To do something. I tried to breathe, but the air grew thick in my lungs, sticking to the back of my throat, almost choking me. My fingers clawed at my neck, trying to force myself to breathe, but it felt futile at that moment as my anxiety immobilized me.

“Can’t you see?” The man stepped closer, so close that he was only inches from me, close enough that he could touch me and turn me into a mummy, just like the dead guard whose sunken eyes continued to blame me for his death. As if pale, lifeless eyes could speak.

“No one else has to die if you come with me.” His hand reached up and touched my trembling cheek.

At his touch, I felt cold almost instantly. It was like a block of ice had been placed on my skin and rippled through me. The warmth that once flooded my cheeks was now frigid and slowly inched through my body as if I had turned to ice myself. My bones were stiff and frozen in place.

He inhaled deeply, and I watched the skin on his face regenerate while his complexion turned from a purple hue to a tanned olive tone. It glistened in the lighting like hot oil in a frying pan.

Suddenly, something knocked me to the ground, snapping me back to reality and warming my insides.

It took me a few seconds to fully register what had happened, but as I looked up from the floor, I saw the last person I expected to see rescuing me.

Dustin-freaking- Ellisario.

Chapter 6

Dustin -A few hours earlier

I sprung awake, the remnants of my dream lingering. And while it faded just as quickly as it awoke me, I could remember one thing.

It was the image of Freya’s eyes, blankly staring into mine.

They were bright and illuminating, captivating almost. Crystal blue like a freshwater spring, chilling to look at and even more chilling to think they had stained my mind.

The dream was so vivid that I had to go through all the events from last night to ensure my mind wasn’t playing tricks on me. Though as the feeling of cold toes tapped my inner leg, reality snapped back.

The girl, whose name I still didn’t know or care to find out, had ruffled in the sheets, stretching as her eyes blinked around the room as if wondering why she was there. Even now, unlike Freya’s, those eyes did little to dazzle me. It was unnerving and confusing, to say the least.

“Who - who are-” She started, but as her eyes rested on me, she exhaled and smiled, curling into my chest, entranced. It was a pleasant surprise to see her still breathing, having fully expected me to drain her to death as my past few hadbeen. Though, I didn’t question it too hard. It could have been because I was distracted.

My mind was still devouring the thoughts of Freya, who had wreaked havoc on my mental ability to function now that I knew she could resist me. She wasunaffectedby my charms. And I felt excited for the day for the first time in a long time.

Don’t get me wrong, there were always plenty of things to find exciting. However, when you live an infinite life with no ticking time bomb of extinction outside of situational reasoning - and have an income large enough to withstand your most insane, creative desires- life tends to feel dull after a while. So rather than feast on round two for breakfast, I eagerly jumped out of bed.

There was almost a skip in my step as I walked to the bathroom to prepare for the day. I showered, then put on my best Brioni suit, grey, to illuminate my eyes and hopefully get at leastonedesired glimpse from her. I pulled my watch drawer out, examining the many Rolex’s I had, letting my wrist size up next to them to see which felt more impressive to wear. The Daytona Cosmograph felt like a nice touch, its silver and blue tones pairing well with my eyes.

If I wanted this to work, I knew I was going to have to figure out how to seduce her the good old-fashioned way. Thehumanway. And I knew she was attracted to my looks. That much was evident from her first reaction of me. It was just about figuring out whatelseshe was attracted to. And I couldn’t help but get excited about this new game of mine.

I then slid on my deep brown oxfords as I adjusted my entire ensemble to leave the condo and meet my family, who would likely be on the garage floor by now.

We each owned separate floors for discrete purposes.

While succubi were sexual by nature, we didn’t exactly enjoy the idea of hearing one’s proclivities. Though sometimes it felt like there were ghosts in the walls, moans vibrating against the floors. Thankfully, I owned the second-floor apartment, farthest from the others. My sister owned the third, my eldest brother owned the fourth, and my mother and father owned the penthouse.

However, even with our own floors, morning afters tended to get a little awkward. Just like today.

I couldn’t exactly leave a doped-up girl in my bed for the day, who could easily come to at an inoperable moment for me. I made sure to lift her to her feet as she slugged into my arms, holding onto me with the little strength she had. Her lips tried casing my body, her hands clinging onto me, begging for me. I ignored her, trailing her to the elevator with me as I hit the descending button to the garage.

When the doors opened, I noticed everyone standing by the elevator.

Sasha caught my eye first, wearing this heinous pink tulle dress that barely covered her legs, which she clearly meant to get attention with, and six-inch stilettos as vibrant as her dress. Oliver was beside her, his eyes widening with half surprise and half relief as he watched me carry the girl in my arms.

Mother and father stood beside them. They both looked well dressed, though not surprising, as they never left the house in anything but the finest of clothes. I had never seen them look disheveled in my entire century on this earth. Nor had I ever seen them fight, which was oddly surprising. They were like two minds blended into one. Always on the same page. Always in tune with each other and their needs. I had never really understood it, but then again, I wasn’t nearly asold as they were.

Mother was reaching her thousandth birthday in just shy of a decade, and father - well, I honestly wasn’t sure how old he was. He was very reserved about everything relating to his life before us. We didn’t celebrate many birthdays or traditions from his side, probably because he wasn’t a full breed.
