Fuck. Liam could feel himself becoming aroused, and he desperately tried to fight it.

It had been far too long since he'd been with a man, thanks to his long-distance relationship. There were some urges that lackluster phone sex couldn't extinguish.

"Nothing," Liam finally managed to say, forcing himself to meet Colt's piercing gaze. "I already have everything I need."

"Yeah?" Colt asked, his voice low and dangerous. He looked Liam up and down. "Because from where I'm standing, it seems like there's something else you need."

"Shut up," Liam snapped, feeling his face flush red. "Just... shut up."

Colt's smirk grew as he looked at Liam. He stepped closer, their bodies almost touching in the gloom of the closet, and let out a low chuckle that sent shivers down Liam's spine. "Maybe it's not money or a vacation you need, Doc," Colt murmured.

Liam's heart raced faster, and warmth pooled in his abdomen. "I don't want anything."

"I didn't saywant." Colt leaned in, his lips brushing against Liam's ear as he whispered. "I saidneed."

Liam tried to suppress the shudder that ran through him, the closeness of Colt's body doing nothing to quell his growing arousal. "I don't need anything, either," he insisted, but the conviction in his voice faltered.

He couldn't allow himself to be tempted by what Colt was saying, not when he had a fiancé waiting for him elsewhere. But the way Colt's breath ghosted over his skin, the way he stood just barely apart from Liam, close enough to touch—

Liam's chest heaved, his breaths ragged as he struggled to find the composure he needed. He ground his teeth together, forcing himself to remember the reason he was here: he was here to establish boundaries, notto get fucked in a maintenance closet by a mafia thug.

"Fine," Liam finally choked out, his voice strained with the effort of suppressing his desires. "If you truly want to reward me…"

"Yeah?" There was a flicker of heat in Colt's gaze.

"Then get me a ticket to go visit my fiance."

The silence that followed was heavy and charged, the air in the maintenance closet thick with tension. Colt regarded him for a moment, his eyes dark and unreadable, before giving a slow nod.

"I'll make it happen," Colt agreed, his voice low. "See, was that so hard?"

That wasn't the only thing that was hard. With every ounce of strength he could muster, Liam pushed past Colt, his body brushing against the larger man as he stepped out of the cramped space and into the sterile brightness of the hospital hallway.

He refused to look back, afraid that if his eyes met Colt's once more, he'd crumble under the weight of his body's desire.

Heart pounding, Liam strode down the hallway, his face flushed and hands shaking. It's just a physical reaction,he told himself. A pent-up need after so many months alone. It's just that.

As Liam continued walking, he tried to remind himself of the life he had built, the commitment he had made to his fiancé. He was a doctor, dedicated to healing and helping others.

He would never let a violent criminal like Colt into his life.

Chapter five

Liam stood outside the townhouse, a blend of brick and ivy. It stared back at him with an air of familiarity, the background of so many selfies he'd been sent.

He couldn't believe he was finally here, standing in front of James's place.

He glanced down at his phone. The plane ticket had arrived in his email just an hour after his heated encounter with Colt.

As if summoned by his thoughts, memories of the intense sexual tension between him and Colt surfaced, making Liam's breath hitch. He could still feel the older man's strong arms caging him in the confines of the closet, Colt's warm breath ghosting over his ear as he offered unsaid promises. Promises of what he would do to Liam, if only he asked for it…

Liam shook his head to dispel the thoughts. He wasn't the type of person who would ever cheat on his fiance. No matter how intense the thrill of danger felt when he was with Colt, he was a better person than that.

Liam rapped his knuckles against the polished wooden door, his heart drumming a matching rhythm in his chest. This surprise visit was exactly what he needed. It would be just the thing to bring him and James closer after months of being apart. He imagined James' face lighting up when he saw him, and felt a smile tug at the corners of his mouth.

You're going to love this,he thought, anticipation bubbling within him.I'm going to love that you love this.

He took a breath as footsteps approached from inside the house. The door swung open, revealing…
