Jaxon: Sorry, the cell died. I was surprised you responded tbh, but glad you did.

Jaxon: See you then :)

I feel the curves of my cheek grow. Of course, my feelings for him are breaking through the hard shell I tried to put up.

Chapter Thirty-Five

JAXON

The week has flown; the air is getting chillier by the day, and more people have brought out their jackets, scarves and beanies. A stark contrast from the bikinis and board shorts in Australia.

Whilst we sit in a cozy breakfast bar that just opened up, I glimpse at Tiffany, who sits across from me. She’s taking notes on her laptop, typing away a profile for me, her face concentrating and clearly working her magic. What she doesn’t know, though, is that I’m hesitant about being her client. My feelings are overwhelming for Abigail, and I don’t want Tiffany to be a conflict of interest.

“So, do you want to do another teaser for your book, or some news about your next one?”

The suggestion sounds tempting as I mull it over. I have the concept; it’s all plotted out and ready to be written. I also need to keep in mind sales for my current one. The only issue is that I don’t want Tiffany in the mix anymore.

“Yes, but not right now,” I blurt, my mind coming up with nothing better to say.

She sighs and sets her laptop aside and clasps her hands together.

“Jaxon, do you have a plan, or an idea of what you want for your next book? I can help you out, but I need a guide for what you want. Or are your thoughts full of Abigail… or women in general?” She quirks her eyebrow and gives me a cheeky smile.

I roll my eyes at her, at how she just made my point. It’s not the best idea to work together.

“Please don’t start this. You know very well I’m interested in your sister and until she says no, I won’t be fooling around.”

“So, if she doesn’t give you a chance, then what?”

“Not sure how to answer that. I’ll do my best to not let that happen. Now, can we move onto business?”

She purses her lips and nods before saying, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to push.”

Good, she got the message of staying out of my personal life. Speaking of that, it’s time I break the news. I lean back and make a deep breath, trying to cool down from getting frustrated with her inquisition.

“Maybe this isn’t a good idea. It’s like conflicting interests.”

Tiffany bites down on her lip as she considers my suggestion. “Okay, maybe you’ve got a point there… and I know you want me butting out of your life, and I get it, but I just want to say one more thing. Please don’t let my sister dishearten you. No one is perfect. We are all messy human beings.”

The door makes a swoosh and the bell chimes, making us both whip our heads to see Abigail look around for us. When she finds us sitting at the little booth, our eyes meet, and she gives me a small smile, which leaves me feeling a sense of giddiness.

I rub the back of my neck, getting out of my stupor when I hear Tiffany close her laptop and shove it inside her bag. She turns to me and smiles, then says, “And with that, my work here is done. Good luck with your future endeavors, although I’m sure I will see you around, so this isn’t a goodbye.Oh, and remember, chin up and cheer up.” She then slides out of the booth and moves towards Abigail.

Tiffany stops to give her a side hug, whispers something in Abigail’s ear and then disappears through the door.

Finally, Abigail makes her way to the table, looking beautiful as she always does, with a yellow woolly scarf wrapped around her neck and bright pink gloves. I grin at the sight. She shucks off her jacket, followed by her gloves and scarf, revealing a tight navy jumper and black jeans. I bite down on my bottom lip as I do my best not to drool over her delicious curves.

The ones that I held tightly as I pounded into her.

“Hi,” Abigail says, planting her things down onto the seat.

I gesture my head towards the café’s door and chuckle. “Does she always end a conversation like that?”

“What? Chin up and cheer up? Yep, she says it most of the time. I still don’t think it makes much sense and can get on my nerves, but she got into the habit,” Abigail says with a roll of her eyes. “Anyway, did everything go well?”

“Actually, things took a detour…”

Abigail cocks her head and says, “How so?”
