“Are you saying…no, you can’t be serious. What exactly do you think is going to happen here?”

Neil grimaced as he unbuttoned his shirt. “Given what he said the other night, I figured that just sleeping with you would be enough to get rid of him, and then we could wait until you were ready for the mating bite, but now I’m not going to risk it. We have to do this the right way and break the whole bond so he doesn’t come sniffing around. So, Ella, I’m going to bite and claim you to fix this mess.”

Heart pounding, I raced to the window and tried to pry it open. I banged on the glass and shouted, hoping that someone on the street below would hear me. But it was no use. Neil was too quick and caught me by the waist, yanking me away from the window. His cologne filled my nostrils, making me nauseous.

“Stop struggling. It’s for your own good. You’ll thank meonce it’s done.” His words were cold and calculated, and I knew then that he had no intention of letting me go.

I kicked and screamed, but his grip on me was too tight. His eyes dared me to continue, and I knew better than to provoke him any further.

Neil pulled me closer, his breath hot against my ear as he whispered, “Don’t make this harder than it needs to be, Ella. Just submit.”

His eyes flickered, the wolf inside trying to prevent the bite from happening. But it was useless; his human's desire to claim me was too strong.

I felt his sharp teeth sink into my neck, and a scream escaped my lips. It was painful but also pleasurable, sending my mind into overdrive. My body reacted against my will, and soon I found myself pressed against his hard body, arching my back to give him better access to my neck.

“That’s a good girl,” he crooned. His fingers trailed my back lightly, setting my skin on fire.

I knew I should fight it, but my body was betraying me, responding to his touch. It made me feel dirty like I was cheating on Gabe, even though I had no control over what was happening. My thoughts were jumbled, and I couldn’t form a cohesive sentence.

I was left panting and confused as Neil pulled away from my neck. But then it was like a fog had lifted from my mind, and I could think clearly again.

“Now, that wasn’t so bad, was it?” Neil chuckled, and I felt sick to my stomach. "And I'm about to make it feel even better, mate."

“What did you do to me?” I managed to ask, my voiceshaking.

“I've marked you as mine. It’s what I needed to do to break the bond between you and that fucking omega. Once we mate, that bond will be severed, and you will belong to me.” His eyes flashed with desire, and I found myself falling forward, desperate with need. Mariam had told me this would happen. With the mating bite comes insatiable lust.

My brain felt foggy once more, and it was difficult to concentrate, but I frowned at the sounds of banging and stomping that vibrated through the floorboards. It started below and moved up the stairs, ending with the door flying open and Gabe bursting into the room. His eyes were wild with rage as he took in the sight of Neil’s near nudity and his hands on my body.

Gabe swore and lunged forward, grabbing Neil by his waist, and forcing him to the floor. Under normal circumstances, the beta would have had the upper hand, but Gabe seemed to have a boost of strength that made Neil no match for his aggression. His fist came down to Neil's face over and over again, causing blood to spread onto the carpet. I stared at them both in shock, struggling to comprehend what was happening. My wolf growled and whimpered. She was as distressed and confused as I was.

When Neil finally stopped moving, Gabe scooped me up and carried me into the hallway like I weighed nothing. He slammed the door shut behind us. It locked with a loud click.

It was a smart move; I could already hear Neil stirring on the other side.

Gabe held me close and bolted outside, going straight for my car.

He set me in the passenger’s seat like he thought I could shatter at any moment. He buckled himself in, too, but didn’t start driving right away. Instead, he leaned over and whispered soothing words into my ear, stroking my hair gently. Tears rolled down my cheeks, and my body trembled. Gabe gently traced his fingers over the fast-healing scar, causing intense pressure to shoot between my legs. The area was more sensitive than anything I had ever felt, and suddenly my only thought was how to get back in the house to complete the connection with Neil.

Gabe grabbed my wrist and locked the doors to keep me from going back into the house. He tried to soothe me and kept apologizing. "I should have known better than to leave you alone. I thought you would come by the hotel after work, but then Heather showed up. She was worried about you. I'm so sorry, Ella. I'm so sorry."

I didn't care that he was sorry. All I wanted to do was run back to Neil and tear my clothes off. "Please let me go," I begged him. "I need him. I have to go back."

He swallowed hard but kept his grip firm until he had my seatbelt fastened. Gabe started my car and pulled away from the alpha house, never taking one hand off my seatbelt buckle. I know because I did everything possible to pry it away from him and undo the restraint.

"It's going to be okay, Ella. Trust me. I know there's an answer to this somewhere in the library back home. I just need to get us to Tumblewild so I can find it."

My tears ran freely, but I stopped trying to get away. The car was moving too fast, and my wolf was no help. Shewas hiding somewhere in the shadows, trying to avoid getting involved at all. She just wanted this whole thing to be over.

“Please, Gabe. He bit me. I need him.”

“I know, Ella. But you don’t understand what you’re saying. Give it an hour or two, and let’s get some distance from him, and you’ll change your mind.” Gabe fumbled with my purse, his eyes still on the road. “Can you get me your phone? You have Jeremy’s number, right?”

I nodded and curled up in the seat, my legs tucked under my chin. The sensitive place between my legs was throbbing, and it felt like there was nothing I could do to satisfy the ache. Still, I tried to rock against the heel of my shoe, praying that the friction would give me some relief.

Gabe glanced at me, his teeth already extended and eyes darkening.

“Ella, whatever you’re doing over there, I need you to stop. The more… aroused you are, the harder it’s going to be for me to concentrate on getting us home.”
