“Come on, Mariam. You’ve stalled long enough. It’s time for bed, and I don’t care if you walk, trot, or if I need to carry you, you’re going to sleep in our room with me.”

I mulled over his words. His voice was firm, but it didn’t have an edge to it anymore. My wolf mewled at him, happy to comply. If I wanted to stop her from leaving with him, I’d have to force a shift, and then I‘d be standing in front of him stark-ass naked.

He led my wolf back down the hall. His suite was furnished with the same type of expensive-looking dark wood, but it was even bigger than the other room. This space was clearly meant for two people: the mated alphas who led the pack. He didn’t seem to notice my awe. Instead, he stopped at the tall dresser and removed his cufflinks. He absentmindedly untucked his shirt and made quick work of the buttons. He tossed the garment into a bin, followed in short order by his pants.

I forced my wolf to look away before he could remove his underwear. She gazed longingly at the comfortable mattress, but I wasn’t having it. She settled on the plush rug at the foot of the bed next to a large steamer trunk.

Trace chuckled and bent down to scratch behind her ears. “You are quite a beauty, Mariam. In all forms.” My wolf rolled onto her back, eager for him to rub her belly.

Traitor. Her display was annoying, but it wouldn’t do any good to be mad at her. She was just acting on her instincts. It was her nature to be loving and trusting toward our mate, even if his temper sometimes sent her running for cover.

“Are you really going to sleep like that?” Trace asked, still running his fingers through my course fur. I stared back at him through my wolf’s eyes, letting him know that I wasn’t budging, either.

“Fine,” he said, straightening and walking toward the bed. “Suit yourself.”

There wasn’t any anger in his voice, which surprised me. He turned off the light and laid down in the dark. The silence in the room was deafening, and I waited, unable to sleep. He seemed to have the same problem as he tossed and turned restlessly.

An hour passed, and then two before he spoke again. “Please,” he said. “My wolf won’t settle without you. Please join me up here.”

My wolf didn’t wait for my input. She jumped up onto the bed, and it sagged under her larger-than-human size. For a second, I thought Trace might complain about me not shifting, but he didn’t seem to care. In one fluid motion, he tucked her head next to his chest and wrapped an arm around her shoulder.

Within seconds, his breathing evened out, and he was completely gone. I studied him in the light of the moon, enjoying the way the stress had melted away from his features. It wasn’t long before a deep, restful sleep claimed me, too.

Chapter 11

It was the sound of snoring that woke me up. My eyes flew open, and I struggled to remember where I was as I took in the strange room around me. And then, I remembered what had happened. I was in Trace’s bed, which was undeniably more comfortable than the floor, but came with some drawbacks of its own. Namely, being suffocated by a man with the build of a lumberjack. The crushing weight of his arm and upper body was akin to being encased in a furnace, and the heat was quickly becoming unbearable.

I had shifted back to my human form some time during the night, which meant that in addition to being trapped by Trace’s body and alone with him in his bed, I was also completely naked.

I groaned, causing Trace’s face to scrunch up in his sleep. I stilled my movements and prayed that I didn’t wake him up. With a bit of luck, I might be able to scoot out from under his massive form and leave to find some clothes.

A few seconds later, he went back to snoring. I let out a small sigh of relief and lightly pulled his hand away from where he was gripping my torso. Without warning, he tightened his hold and pulled me deeper into the bed so thatI was completely beneath him. He bared his teeth, and his eyes opened slightly. The glow and dilated pupils said they were all wolf.

None of that phased me because I was too distracted by the hard length of his cock pressed into the dip of my stomach. It felt huge, and it twitched against me like it had a mind of its own.

“Female.” He breathed deeply, enjoying the smell of our scents mixed together in the bed. I had to admit, it was intoxicating. The hands that wrapped around my waist started moving. First, his thumbs made small circles, almost teasing me, and then he traveled higher until they rested just below my breasts.

I felt liquid heat form below as I squirmed beneath him. He was so close…. all I needed to do was line him up and push forward to have him lodged inside of me.

The muscles of my pussy flexed, imagining how good it would feel to bare down on him. He growled his agreement as if he could read my thoughts, but his wolf had more pressing matters on his mind.

“My human hasn’t claimed you, but that doesn’t mean I need to wait, little wolf.” He dipped his head lower, nuzzling my neck. The action made my heart race, and I felt my wolf fighting to come to the surface. She wanted to join him for this moment, even if she remained in my body.

I blinked back against the shift, struggling to keep her inside and not lose control. He smelled so good, and my head turned on its own to give him better access to my neck.

The second I felt his teeth sink in, sparks of ecstasy flew in front of my eyes. I might have screamed or made a totally different noise as I struggled to breathe, but there was nopain as he claimed me with his bite.

I felt blood trickle down the side of my neck when he released me. Trace’s wolf lapped at it, trying to clean it for me, but I was so strung out on endorphins that I didn’t care. I wasn’t sure how long it took me to come down from that high, but when my mind cleared, Trace was staring down at me. All signs of his wolf were gone, and his expression was unreadable.

His eyes traveled from mine and lingered on his mating mark. It was probably red and angry if it was anything like some of the other fresh ones I had seen. Werewolves might heal quickly, but mating bites were a somewhat serious injury. That was partly because another werewolf’s teeth were responsible for the wound and also because it was so deep in a really delicate place on the body. Unfortunately, the male’s bite needed to be that deep and hard. If they didn’t pierce the skin so intensely, there wouldn’t be a lingering scar to display the bonded status of the female.

But if the way the bite had made me feel was a typical rush, maybe the females weren’t getting the raw end of the deal in that exchange like I had always assumed. I had to wonder if sex would be as good as everyone had always said.

Trace’s gaze dropped to my lips, and I thought for a minute that he was going to kiss me. I felt torn about the thought. My wolf was moon-eyed and ready to give him a litter of pups, but our humans had barely even had a single civil conversation.

The desire to run and process these feelings alone had me struggling to get away. When I pushed against Trace, he didn’t try to keep me pinned.

“Look, Mariam, I’m--“
