Maybe she isn’t sure what to say over the phone and wants to celebrate with you in person,Trace offered through our connection.

Maybe we should just elope again, I countered. It worked out well enough for the wedding in Vegas.

Trace agreed, sending me his memories of watching me walk down the aisle to him. Unfortunately, there was no werewolf equivalent for a small mating ceremony; it was meant to be celebrated by the whole pack.

It was even more essential for us to host all the members of Tumblewild at the ceremony because it was when I would become an official alpha of the pack, holding as much influence over their lives as Trace.

The night grew short, and some of the younger pack members started to help with the clean-up while the elders headed back to their homes. I spotted Gabe from where he was helping to break down the changing room tents and walked over to him.

He looked deep in thought but smiled a greeting when I offered him a hand.

“Did you enjoy the run?” I asked.

Gabe nodded as he folded a length of canvas and shoved it back in its box. “My wolf needed it. He’s been a little out of sorts lately.”

I frowned. “What do you mean? Is he alright?”

“I think so. It’s more like he senses something. It’s hard to describe.”

“Well, I can’t say I’ve had that feeling before,” I said honestly. “Maybe you should talk to someone? Maybe the pack physician?”

“It’s probably nothing. I’m sure he’s just restless.”

Trace came to assist us, and we quickly broke down the last few tents.

I walked with him hand-in-hand back to the alpha house, my mind still concerned over what Gabe had shared.

I asked Trace about it, wondering if maybe it was something he had experienced before, too.

“Actually,” he said. “I had something similar happen right before leaving to visit Dark Claw. I was there originally to meet with Jeremy and discuss a possible trade agreement, but my wolf was really out of sorts. I couldn’t get him to focus on anything.”

“Do you think he could have sensed that we would be in the same place? Is that even possible?” I asked. Trace had never shared that bit of information with me. I had the feeling that he never even considered it himself.

“Could be,” he said thoughtfully. “He had never acted like that before.”

The thought made me smile. With any luck, maybe my friend would soon be finding his true mate, too.
