Page 21 of Saving Mallory

“Yes, sir.” Her pout was uncontainable.

“Mallory, we can go for a swim,” offered Ivy from the doorway. Mallory turned her attention to Ivy.

“Really, that would be great, only I don’t have a suit, and Mr. Rules here says I can’t go outside.” Mallory graced Monroe with a sour face.

Monroe raised his eyebrows. “Keep it up, woman. I would remember what I do for entertainment, baby.”

“Monroe,” she hissed.

Mallory melted at this part of Monroe, but it embarrassed her when he openly referred to it. His way of kink floated her boat, so to speak. She was wired the same way he was, and by the sound of it, the same way these people were. And acceptance was apparent. How refreshing it was not to have to hide her inner desires from others, even if it was an intimate group of Monroe’s colleagues.

Jessie laughed as she came to stand next to Ivy. “We all know he has a rubber paddle in the glove box of his car.”

Mallory’s eyes widened. “You do?”

Sharlee laughed. “It’s Monroe’s standard threat if we don’t do what they think we should. These men. Honestly.”

Jessie added. “And we crave it. Well, unless they are having a session on our ass because we didn’t do what they wanted. These men have a hang-up about safety and health. I mean, most men do for their women, but these guys…”

Ivy wiggled her eyebrows. “Even that can turn into sexy times.”

Carter shooed Ivy and Mallory toward the door to the pool, but before they left the room, Jac sent Sharlee to take a break, then head to the office. Becky went with Sharlee. As Becky passed Carter, she gave him a wink. He swatted her backside playfully. Mallory marveled at the ease with which this group of people felt with each other. It was a little awkward, but it was more invigorating.

Mark sent Jessie home to take a nap.

“I’m not an invalid, Mark. I’m pregnant. My job isn’t taxing.” Jessie’s hands landed on her hips.

“Physically, I agree. If it were, we would be having a different discussion. It is mentally exhausting. We’ve been at the debriefing for over an hour, and you worked this morning.”

“Mark, it’s my job.”

His hand reached up and smoothed her hair. Jessie didn’t flinch. In fact, she leaned into his hand. The longing in Mallory’s belly to be able to do that without recoiling burned. “Please, just take an hour. If you feel like working after that, I won’t complain.”

“Okay. Just an hour.” Mark drew Jessie into his arms and kissed her. “Thank you.”

Mallory watched the interaction with interest. Here, Mark started with a demand and a face to match. Mallory wouldn’t have been able to answer him back without cringing. Jessie had no trouble disagreeing without breaking a sweat. Mark softened after their dance and clash of wills, and Jessie yielded with a hook. It was a dance and one she could believe they often did.

Monroe leaned into Mallory. “Hey.”

“Hey. I’m going swimming.”

“I know. Ivy is waiting for you at the door.” He nodded in the direction of Mark and Jessie. “Learn anything?”

She turned to him. “How did you know?”

He chuckled deviously. “I told you I watch everything about you. I’ll be working in Jac’s office while you swim.” He kissed her, turning her in the direction of the doorway. “Now, go.” He swatted her butt, and before today, doing that in public with anyone in the room would have set her off. Now she glowed warmly inside.

She needed to shake off the residual effects of the afternoon’s debriefing, so she followed Jessie to the pool, and they both borrowed suits to swim in.

“You can bring one to leave here if you like. Becky doesn’t like to share suits, and Sharlee wears black and navy suits only. But Ivy and I don’t have any problem sharing. I mean, we all were tested soon after becoming exclusive with our men, so there aren’t any issues there, and the guys have to be tested after they change girlfriends, or monthly, so everyone is squeaky clean.”

“Oh, I don’t think I’ve ever been tested for STDs.”

“No? Not even this time in the hospital? Well, I have twice. Once when I got with Kaden, and then the second time when we got back together.”

“Oh, you mean you broke up and then got back together?”

“Yes. I’ll tell you my story since I already know yours. Well, this last week and all. Fair is fair. It will also help you know why Kaden and I are getting married next month.”
