"I will let you know as soon as I am safe at home in my bed. If you need anything, let me know, alright?"

"I'll see you at the shop sometime tomorrow ... I mean, I guess today. Love you."

I plant a small kiss on her forehead before she shakes Carina awake enough to hobble to the apartment door. The two disappear inside and Colton looks to me for directions for my place, shifting the vehicle into drive. Our eyes meet and I don't let them stay locked for long, shifting my eyes back down to my phone.

"Where to?"

I would be lying if I said that seeing Delaney's body covered in my hoodie didn't ignite something inside me. The heat blasts from the car vents, whooshing around the cabin. Maybe that's what is making my skin burn, not Delaney. We are backtracking, retracing our route from the club to get to her place. It is evident that the walk would have been quick for her, but no way in hell was I going to let her sequined ass walk alone at night, no matter how far.

"You can just pull over here. This is close enough."

Close enough, something I have been playing in my mind over and over again the whole ride. We are close enough to each other. I don't need to reach for her hand or pull her closer to me to make sure she can feel the warmth of my body. We are close enough to the flame. Any closer and we will both get burned, ruined, destroyed.

I follow her instructions, finding an empty spot in the cars to parallel park into. When I turn off the engine, Delaney looks at me like I committed the most offensive action.

"What? Am I not allowed to walk you to the door?"

"I would prefer you didn't." Her answer is direct, but the softness in her eyes tell me something different. She is afraid. As if walking her to the door may lead to more.

"That's not my style, Laney. I don't do drunk canoodling so just let me walk you to the door so that I can feel like I got you all home safely."

"Go home, Colt, I can handle myself." The words cut deep but I ignore them and follow her anyway.

She whips around after a few steps, her feet fumbling to keep her balance with the sudden change in direction. "What part ofnodid you not understand? We can't do this, please don't make it more difficult than it already is."

"For fuck's sake, let me make sure you get home alright so I can sleep tonight. You're so stubborn, I guess some things never change."

"Seriously? You're going to stand there and tell me that I'm stubborn when you can't even follow a simple instruction and stay in the fucking car?"

"So you would rather me follow you in the car? That seems a bit creepy don't you think?"

"Ugh, I don't want you to follow me at all!" She starts marching towards me, her stride more confident and aggressive than her previous stumbling. "I am a grown ass woman dammit. I can walk the half mile to my door without a chaperone. Just. Go. Home.Colton."

My chest hits hers, my feet unable to slow down enough as we get closer together. I reach my hand around her back, keeping her from falling over when she doesn't stop in time. She might as well be a baby deer trying to learn how to walk for the first time. I can appreciate a nice pair of heels but not at the expense of a broken ankle or skinned knee.

"You're still wearing my sweatshirt." My fingers fan along her back, the fabric warm from her body heat and the last thing I want her to do is take it off out here. It's getting colder the later it gets and that might be how I convince her to let me walk her the rest of the way.

"Fine, you can have it back." Delaney steps backwards away from me, my hand falling from her. She grips the hem and starts to remove it when I stop her.

"I don't want you to take it off out here where it's fucking freezing. So please, just let me walk you there and then I will take it back when you're warm in your apartment. We both win."

"Ugh, whatever, you're lucky that I'm cold."

That's not the only reason I'm lucky. She keeps herself in front of me at least three paces but she has to walk extra fast to keep that pace with her long, wobbling legs. My sweatshirt is longer than her dress, making her appear to be naked underneath and fuck, it's sexy as hell.

We make it to her building and she pops the door open with her hip, the key twisting and releasing the sticky door. She is the first door on the right, decorated with sprigs of fake fall flowers and leaves in every color of autumn.

Her apartment door opens easily and she doesn't slam it in my face, so I follow her inside. A brick wall serves as a backdrop for her living room, making itwarm and inviting even with the lights off. The only glow comes from the light under the microwave, no doubt left on anticipating coming home to a dark and empty apartment. I did the same thing.

"My roommate works nights."

Why would she tell me that? To hammer home that we are alone in her place right now?

"I'm only here to take back my sweatshirt and then I will be on my way. It's been a long night." My words are undercut with lies, I would happily stay here for whatever she wanted from me if she asked.

In the harsh light under her microwave, she again starts to pull off my sweatshirt. As she pulls it over her head, her dress comes with it - the sequins like velcro to the inner fuzz. Delaney moves too quickly to notice, or for me to stop her. Within ten seconds she is standing fully naked in her kitchen, but my sweatshirt and her dress in her outstretched hand.

Frozen, my eyes roam everywhere they shouldn't. Her creamy skin, her pert pink nipples, the curve of her waistline, the barely-there patch of dark hair above her pussy. My pants grow tighter as my cock reacts to seeing her like this.
