“She doesn’t know yet. He said I could tell her, but until it was a done deal, he wasn’t going to say anything.”

“Are you going to tell her?”

“As soon as everyone is in bed.”

Lisa and Daniela finished the nighttime routine. Daniela went up to the new nanny room, and Lisa to the kitchen to make tea. She was opening bakery boxes to see what looked appealing when her phone beeped.

“How was it?” she asked Alison.

“I was telling Max that it was actually nice. My daughter wasn’t warm and fuzzy, but that’s Morgan.”

“Daniela told me,” Lisa replied, laughing. “Morgan is a force to be reckoned with.”

“I feel sorry for Ryan because if he really wants a relationship with her now, he’ll have to take a back seat to Max. She loves him so much.”

“He’s been Daddy. And Ryan has a lot to make up for.”

“So, I have gossip.”

“Go for it,” Lisa said.

“Ryan will not tell you until it’s finalized, but he’s moving into Dan’s old house.”

Lisa’s heart sank. “He’s buying it?”

“He’s going to commute.”

“I heard that already.”

“And this way, he’ll be close to the kids.”

“I really don’t want him across the street, but I don’t control it. He’s buying it, you say?”

“I think that’s what he said.”

“Where would Ryan get that kind of money?”

“Maybe Peter gave him an advance,” Alison answered.

“I bet my mother is behind this,” Lisa said, seething.

“Ask him. I told him I was going to tell you.”

“I’ve talked to Ryan enough today.”

“Okay, well, let me know what you learn. Talk tomorrow?”

“Tomorrow.”

Lisa ended the call. Removing the teabag from her cup, she lifted it to sip. Her gut response was to call Pam and ream her out. But she wanted to sleep, and getting into a fight with her mother before bed hardly seemed smart.

A wave of heat rolled over her. Would Pam betray her confidence about the baby? That was enough to warrant a call.

“Lisa,” Pam answered.

“Mom, just want to remind you not to tell Ryan about the baby.”
