“Yes. You can sell your house and invest that money, or rent it out and come live with me.”

“Wow. My head is spinning.”

“Betsy, I love you. I don’t want to be away from you. Come with me.”

“Okay! I’m ready,” she’d said.

After church that Sunday, she’d stop at the store to buy items she needed for the luncheon they were hosting at the house Pam had bought Ryan. They’d moved last week and were just getting it decorated with Pam’s help. It would be a housewarming of sorts. Pam would see to that. She had already told everyone that she expected a full turnout.

“After the number of dinner parties I’ve hosted on this block, everyone had better bring a gift.”

Ryan had told Lisa he was paying Pam back every cent for the house. “I know you’re probably furious with your mother, but try to forgive her. She saw an opportunity for me to be close to the family, that’s all.”

“I know, Ryan. I’m glad you’ll be across the street. I’m sorry controlling you with money was such a big deal. That was wrong of me.”

The older children had already asked to go over to Ryan and Betsy’s on more than one occasion.

“I love it,” Betsy had said. “Thank you for letting them visit.”

No one had noticed yet that Lisa was pregnant, but with Ryan across the street and obviously happy with Betsy, it seemed silly to hide it. She’d let nature take its course. When someone in that crowd noticed she had a baby bump, it wouldn’t be long before word spread. Betsy had called earlier in the week.

“I know it’s easier if you have Sunday at your place. Do you mind if we do it this week?”

“Not at all. My mother already mentioned that she wanted to have a housewarming over there.”

“Yes, she’s hell-bent on people bringing us gifts, but truthfully, we don’t need anything. I had a house set up, and all that stuff moved over with me.”

“Let people bless you,” Lisa said.

“I’m sorry about everything. I know this is weird,” Betsy said.

“Truly, it’s fine. I’m so glad Ryan has someone decent. And my kids already love visiting, and you’ve only been there a week.”

“Well, I love having them. I guess with kids, you’re never lonely.”

“This is true. How’s it with Morgan?”

“Well, she finally stopped calling Ryan Mr. Maddox. Now that Max is Maxine, she’s calling Max Mom and Ryan Dad.”

“Then what is Alison?” Lisa asked.

“Alison is Alison,” Betsy said, snickering.

“My sister would never admit that to me,” Lisa replied, laughing.

“Everything is sort of falling into place.”

“Just like Kassandra said!” Lisa cried.

“Exactly. I’m allowing it to unfold.”

“Me, too. I’m trying to allow things to happen organically, and it’s working out. Anyway, Sunday at your house is fine. What time?” Lisa asked.

“Same as yours. Noonish. Then, after we eat, if it’s nice, everyone will go across the street to the beach to play football.”

“Exciting!”

“Oh! Before I forget, Ryan ordered two sets of bunk beds, one for the girls and one for the boys, and Megan will have her ownroom since we have the four bedrooms here. We’ll make the bedroom in the basement be a guest room.”
