“Me, too. We’ve been alone for ten years, and it was enough for me. I’m not sure how I’ll adjust to having a third member of the family.”

“I’m sure you’ll love being a family, Tony. Look how you are with Bella.”

“I adore Bella, but I don’t know if I could deal with a baby with all those problems.”

“She’s got a lot of problems, that’s for sure,” Kassandra said as they entered the kitchen. “But I’m sure we’d adapt. The percentages are in our favor to have a healthy baby.”

“You’re the doctor. Sit down.”

He pulled out her chair and served her a plate with a steak, baked potato, and salad.

“This is like a restaurant meal,” she said, smiling.

“I used the grill in the stove. That fan will suck you into it, so if you ever use it, be careful not to get your hair too close.”

“This is delicious.”

“Was today really your last day?” Tony asked.

“I’ll drive up to see my surgery patients. Louis says I don’t have to, but they aren’t getting away with that. I’ll do rounds and discharge instructions, and if he doesn’t like it, he can delete them.”

“Why am I not surprised that asshole would act like this?” Tony stated, annoyed.

“They want me out. New residents will come in during January, and they don’t want to pay me. It’s fine. The timing is perfect.”

“So, what’s next?” Tony asked.

“I guess wait for a reasonable amount of time to pass and then put a nursery together,” Kassandra answered. “I don’t even know the rooms in this place, so we’ll go through each bedroom and see which one is appropriate.”

“What about the office off the bedroom?” Tony asked.

“I thought you’d want to use that,” Kassandra answered.

“No. I’ll pick another room,” Tony replied. “I don’t want the tyke farther from us.”

“Aw, you’re already thinking that way.”

“Yeah. We’ll keep him close. I’m getting nervous,” he grumbled, shaking his hands.

“Babe, I’m only about two weeks. Calm down.”

“I can’t. Can we tell my brother?” he asked.

“Sure, but this early, there’s always the chance that I won’t carry it for long.”

Tony covered his ears with his hands. “Oh, jeez, don’t say that! You’re not to do anything until it’s safe. When is that, anyway?” he asked.

“We’ll be safe after twelve weeks. That’s only ten more weeks. But you can tell Andy. No one else, though.”

“No, not a soul. Should we shop for a crib now or wait?” he asked.

“We can shop now. We’re going to have a baby one way or another, no matter what. This baby will just be the first of many, I hope.”

“Now I’m getting nervous again.”

“Aw, babe, don’t get nervous. It’s all good.”

“I wonder if my dad felt this way.”
