“I’m so glad you’re here,” Sandra said. “I know I’m not very friendly…”

“You’re just fine,” Kassandra said. “And you and Andy will be my baby’s aunt and uncle.”

“Right, and you’re family. You know all the players.”

“That I do. I think the next problem is going to be Angie.”

“Ugh. Get Dan Chua on board. He’s Pam’s BF. And an estate lawyer.”

“I will. Igor already saw him. I just hope Igor doesn’t keel over soon. I can just see her accusing me of manipulating a sick old man.”

“Is he sick?” Sandra asked, alarmed.

“Nah, he’s as healthy as an ox. But he is old. And that puts him at higher risk of keeling over.”

“What are you going to do?”

“Get in touch with the title company first thing Monday morning and make sure everything is in order. I will get in touch with Dan.”

“We’re about halfway to my place,” Sandra said. “Let’s part ways here. I don’t want you walking all the way home alone.”

“I don’t mind,” Kassandra said. “I’m not ready to say goodnight.”

“Look, there’s Pam’s house.”

“That conservatory is so beautiful at night with the lights.”

“She’s already decorated for Christmas. I’ll let the nanny and Damon do all the decorations this year. The boxes have been stacked in the living room for a week.”

“I’m going to start tomorrow. I was so excited to do it, and Tony’s shenanigans put a wrench in it.”

“Don’t let him do that,” Sandra said.

“Okay, I won’t! I have to think about what I would have done if Tony wasn’t part of the picture. Last year he put up a tree. It was his house, and I let him lead. I was getting excited to decorate my first house.” She leaned in and kissed Sandra. “Thank you! I’ll jog home. Talk tomorrow?”

“Tomorrow it is. Maybe I’ll start doing Sundays so Lisa can get a break.”

Jogging up the beach, Kassandra saw her house in the distance, the lights on around the terrace, which meant Tony was probably waiting for her.

“Ugh.”

When she started up the dune, he walked out onto the terrace. “How was it?”

“Good. I ran into Sandra. She said they might do lunch at their house tomorrow since Lisa did it at her house today.”

“Okay. There’s always something to do here.”

She climbed the steps to the terrace. “I’m going to find someone to decorate the house.”

“I’ll do it,” he replied.

“No, I want to find someone to do it professionally. I want it fancy. I’m willing to go all out.”

“Whatever you want,” Tony said, following her into the house. “I was getting worried.”

“Well, I’m sorry, but don’t worry about me. I want to be free to come and go like I always have. I know you’re probably worried about the baby.”

“I’m worried about you. Us. I feel awful.”
