Damn.

“I was just admiring the photographer's technique,” I invented wildly.

Roy's eyes quickly scanned the room, then he leaned down so that his lips were less than an inch from my ear.

“It's a self-timer photo. I'm sure the photographer would love to give you an overview of his technique.”

Holy shit, Roy.

Goosebumps raced down my body, and I took a shuddering breath, trying to steady myself and not jump his bones.

“Hey, Roy. Kat,” the voice of Roy's PA called over at us and Roy straightened up slowly, giving the man a wide smile.

“Hey, Declan. I thought you were still here. I'm just about to pick up my stuff from the office.”

“So, you're no longer going to sleep in there?”

I saw Roy's face falter in shock. “What? I haven't, I—” He stumbled over his words but Dec shut him up with a wave of his hand.

“Not judging, you'll have your reasons.”

“Who knew?”

“All of us, boss,” Declan said gently.

“Shit.” Roy slumped forward and I put my hand on his lower back to ground him.

“As I said, you'll have your reasons, Roy. You're moving out? Need any help with the boxes?”

“That's a lovelyidea, Declan.” I grinned over at the curly-haired man.

“Cool, I'm just going to shut my computer down. I was going to leave now anyway.”

“If you have other plans, Dec, it's okay, I'll manage.”

A tinkling laugh rang through the warehouse. “Don’t be silly.” Still chuckling, he turned to his computer. Dec clicked the button on his mouse twice. Tiny beeping noises told me it was powering down.

“Let’s get cracking.” Straightening up, he ran a hand through his mop of dark blonde curls, and looked expectantly from Roy to me and back.

I like this guy.

Chapter Sixteen

Roy

It took me exactly one trip to get all my stuff from the office to Kat’s place.

My entire life as an adult packed into a dozen boxes, I thought to myself as Declan and I had carried them all upstairs into my temporary home.

There was a hollow in my chest that I couldn’t quite place, but I pushed it aside.

Later. I’ll deal with this later.

Since all three of us had clocked out for the day, Kat suggested going to the Indian restaurant around the corner. A part of me resented her for making Dec tag along, but perhaps she was right. It would be hard enough for the two of us to keep our hands off each other; having a chaperone for the first few hours as roomies wasn’t the worst idea.

I had no idea how it was going to work. Would things be awkward between us? Did she pity me? Was that why shehadn’t told me to back off? Not that I blamed her. There was no way a woman like her would see me as anything but a welfare case in my current state.

We walked a few minutes to the restaurant, and if Declan found it weird that I’d moved into our account manager’s flat, he at least didn’t let on.
