“Did you bring your roommate?”
I could have sworn her sister sketched quotation marks in the air around the word, making it ooze with sarcasm.
“Yes.” Kat’s voice was carefully controlled, but I saw her blush fiercely.
“Where is he? The guest room door was open and it’s empty, and—wait— he’s in here, isn’t he?”
Hiding her face in her hands, Kat gave a muffled affirmation.
“Hi, Kat’s roomie, I’m Ava,” she called.
“Hi, Ava,” I answered.
“Well, I’ll leave you, uh, to it. See you in the kitchen.”
“I’ll disinherit her, I swear.” Huffing, Kat got up from the bed, went to a wardrobe, and flung open the doors. “I’m gonna go take a quick shower and grab your bag from thecar so you can change, okay?” She said with her head in the wardrobe, looking for something to wear.
I came to stand next to her and waited until she’d slipped a long nightshirt over her head before wrapping my arms around her. All the tension left her body as she sank into the hug, her cheek coming to rest at my pec.
“I can’t wait to meet your sisters.”
“I bet they feel the same about you.”
“It’s going to be all right, rudra. Don't worry.”
