“Nope.” She shakes her head.

“I told you, if you want to slow things down, I’m fine with that. I shouldn’t have gotten you off like that when you were working.”

She backs out of the lot, looking over her shoulder. I see the little smile on her face, so I don’t think she’s all that worried about it. “It was hot. I haven’t done anything like that before. It’s been a while for me, Ash. I’m not sure if you realize.”

I watch her intently as she moves the gear to drive and pulls out of the lot.

I still don’t know where we’re going yet, if she’s taking me back to her place or dropping me at my accommodation.

“How long?” I ask her.

She shrugs indifferently. “Six months, maybe.”

“Six months!” I try not to exclaim, but it’s a little hard not to.

“Hey, I’ve been busy,” she says.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to say it like that.”

“Plus, like I said before, these days, I need a connection with a guy before I can… Most guys I’ve met up with don’t seem to understand that notion.”

“I totally get that,” I tell her. “I’m the same.”

“That’s kind of rare for a guy.”

“I know.”

“Don’t forget to put the place you’re staying at into the GPS,” she says.

I glance up at her in the dark. “You gonna drive me home, babe?”

“Yeah, I mean—if you don’t mind me staying for a bit.”

I laugh, and I don’t even try to hide it. “Is that a trick question?”

“There’s something you should know, though,” she tells me as my fingers work deftly, checking the address again on my cell and typing it into her GPS.

“What’s that?” I ask her, fascinated by the way she says it. And that’s partly because I want to know everything about her, and partly because I’m glad she feels she can be open and honest with me. That’s what I want.

“Well, two things. Firstly, I’m not used to the guy doing all the giving.”

I watch her with interest. “You think that’s what I’m doing?”

“You seem to always want to take care of me first. I’m not complaining, by the way; it’s just unusual for me.”

I’m a little confused by what she’s saying. “Was the last guy not attentive or something?”

She nods. “That’s what it is. He wasn’t attentive at all, or romantic. He was quite selfish now that I think about it. And he said it took a while to get there, so he kinda stopped even trying to—” She sighs and looks at me. “I’m sorry, this is too much. I’m sure you don’t want to hear about some other guy and what he could or couldn’t do.”

I shake my head unfathomably. I mean, I’d rather not think about it, but what she’s saying is important and I need to know. “He just wanted to get off and not worry about you?” I ask her incredulously. I glance down at her body as she drives. Her dress won’t stay on for long if I have my way. I’d love nothing more than to worship every inch of her gorgeous, petite body. The previous guy must have been insane.

“That’s kinda what I’m saying.”

I figure now isn’t the time to feel a little smug that I got her off countless times today.

“The guy was clearly crazy,” I say to her. This isn’t a hard one to figure out. “And I love taking care of a woman’s needs first. That’s just who I am.”

She smiles. “Like I said, it’s a first for me.”
