Perched above the door Edgar had disappeared before was a huge black raven with the eyes of a demon that was dreaming and an impossible look of Pallas-like intelligence. In its sharp black beak hung a yellowed paper upon which was scrawled a few short words and nothing more. I could read it from where I half-lay against Frost and it sent chills down my spine. It was written in handwriting close to my own scrawl, but with an older touch.

Gigi Faucett wiped another hot tear angrily from her cheek. Her voice shaking with grief and rage, she said, “I still think we should just kill her. I want that bitchdead.”
“We’ll get there, but trust me on this one, Gigi. We both know Nina would’ve wanted it done the right way, not the quick and easy way. And we both know it’ll be much better to drag it out. Besides, we’ve got a lot of unfinished business besides Nina.”
Shaking off any more tears considering falling, Gigi turned to the incredibly tall man with the messy dark blond hair. “You meanher?” she asked, nodding towards the closet.
The man grinned, his voice as smooth and seductive as cyanide-laced honey. “Nina wouldn’t have let her live otherwise. Besides, isn’t it funny to know that they all think she’s dead when we’ve actually got her right here under their noses?”
Gigi shook her head. “No, I think it’s weak. Just because she’s a little girl doesn’t mean we shouldn’t kill the brat.”
“Nina let her live for a reason. You can’t tell me it wouldn’t be fun to rub this in Poe’s face. You know how that would destroy her and Frost.”
“I still think you just want to go after Poe one more time and that’s why you’re hanging around.”
Lex chuckled in a way that reminded Gigi of a hellish beast crouched over its prey, ready to tear flesh from bone. When he turned to face her, his hazel eyes flashed a strange color that was almost red as he smiled menacingly. “Don’t worry, Gigi. You’ll get your revenge. One way or another.”
