“You do?” Geneva searched my eyes for answers.

“Yes. On the off chance that they might have seen something unusual, out of the ordinary.”

Geneva’s eyes lit up with hope. “They might have surveillance tapes we could review, too.”

“They might,” I sighed. “But without the Miami police force tagging along with us, they might not be willing to disclose those tapes without them.”

“But you’re police, too, right?” Geneva questioned.

I chuckled. “I wish it was that simple.”

“He’s military police,” Worth explained. “It’s different because he doesn’t have jurisdiction.”

“But I am willing to help in any way they will allow me to,” I added.

Geneva gave me a heartfelt smile that made my skin tingle. “I really appreciate you guys being here for me. I don’t know what I would’ve done if you weren’t here. I’m sure I’d fall apart…” she trailed off as her voice cracked.

I wanted to protect her, and as I glanced over at Worth and Ethan, I knew they were determined to help in any way they could.

“Hey,” I whispered as I walked over to her. I wrapped my arms around her slender waist, resisting the urge to trail my burning fingertips under her shirt to feel the softness of her skin. “It’s okay. We’re here to protect you. You don’t have to be alone.”

Geneva glanced up at me with glistening eyes. “Thank you,” she said. Her voice was a sensual purr, music to my ears.

I wanted to kick the other two guys out and ravage her. I wanted to be alone with her, to strip off her layers of emotions, but I couldn’t.

Not yet.

“Come on.” I pushed forward to the door. “Let’s go downstairs and talk to the clerk in the lobby.”

“Maybe somebody should stay up here?” Worth suggested before my hand was on the door handle. “Just in case the perpetrator comes back?”

Geneva looked between us as if she was waiting for an answer. “That might be a good idea… if you don’t mind?”

“No, of course not.”

“Okay,” I nodded. “Geneva, you can come with me. Worth and Ethan will stay here.”

It was a short ride down the elevator. It chimed on the ground floor, dumping us out into a white marbled floor lobby with an aquarium in the center and a huge golden chandelier dangling proudly above it.

The lobby was quiet and empty. Nothing appeared out of the ordinary. I peered out the set of sliding glass doors in the main entrance. There was no activity outside in the front parking lot, at least not to the observable witness.

Geneva approached the front desk clerk who was dressed in a white polo shirt with the name tag ‘Brenda.’

“Hello,” Geneva said politely as Brenda glanced up with a customer service perfect smile smeared with an enormous amount of lipstick.

“Can I help you?” Brenda asked in a friendly voice.

I cleared my throat. I knew that it wouldn’t get me far later on, but I decided to use what authority I did have to get some answers out of Brenda.

“She’s in room 303.” I pointed to Geneva. “Someone has broken into her room and ransacked it. Things are toppled over. It’s a mess.”

Brenda’s face drained of color and her mouth formed a horrified circular shape. “What? Was anything stolen?”

Geneva shook her head gravely. “Not that I could tell.”

“We can send a police officer to check out the scene if you want?” Brenda glanced between us for approval.

“I’m part of the military police in the Air Force,” I explained. “A back up deputy might be nice.”
