“I'm doing well,” I replied, although I wished he hadn’t interrupted our conversation. I was about to ask Cole when he knew he wanted to have sex with a woman. I’d have to wait now. Of course, I’m sure it was different for men than for women. I am not a complete novice. I have made out with men before.

“Where is everyone?” Ghost asked.

Cole stood up and got Ghost a plate of food. “Mike went to training camp, and the others went on vacation.”

“I feel like I scared them off by being here,” I admitted.

“Why would you feel like that,” Cole reassured me. “They all needed a break. Ghost, did you find out anything?”

“The man following Bailey is Donnie Turner. We managed to access the prison records, which showed that the fingerprints didn't match. They've been hunting for Donnie Turner since his brother was killed in prison.”

“What about all the times I reported him stalking me? All they had to do was keep an eye on me,” I asked.

“I contacted every county where you reported him to the police. I asked them the same question,” Ghost explained. “They had no idea what I was talking about. Apparently, the police believed you might have been making everything up and never filed a report.”

Cole's anger flared, and he looked at me, saying, “Did you show them all the pictures that bastard sent you?”

I was shocked by Cole’s response and his intense gaze. “Yes, every single one. I'm furious at those police officers I talked to. Why would they think I was making it up? They could have caught him by now if they'd done their jobs.”

“Fools. We'll catch him. I'm not worried about that. They could have apprehended him by now,” Cole reassured me, his hand reaching out to cover mine. “We'll get him soon, I promise. We have his DNA; he can't hide for long. Are you scared now that it's really Donnie Turner and not his brother?”

“No, because I already suspected it was him. I feel safe as long as I'm with you. I know we'll catch him soon,” I responded, although I didn't disclose my plan to lure Donnie out into the open. I just needed to sneak away and return to the cabin.

I observed Cole and Ghost as they continued their conversation. I couldn't believe I had revealed to Cole that I had never slept with a man. He probably thought there was something wrong with me. It was a shame our conversation had been interrupted. I had been on the verge of discussing my feelings and experiences with Cole.

Cole must have sensed my gaze because he looked at me and smiled before glancing away. I must have had a dreamy expression on my face because Cole glanced at me again and frowned at me.

“Why are you frowning at me?” I asked.

“I’m not frowning at you,” Cole replied.

“Yes, you are,” Ghost chimed in. “I was wondering the same thing.”

“I’d know if I were frowning,” he insisted. “I’m telling both of you, I’m not frowning.”

Ghost and I exchanged glances before bursting into laughter.

“Okay, maybe I was frowning. I’m sorry,” Cole said.

“That’s alright. I have a few things to take care of on my iPad. I’ll see you both later,” I said as I left the room.

I found myself in a surprising conversation with Bailey, one that made me uneasy. She needed assurance that my heart was off-limits. After all, there was a significant nine-year age gap between us. Thankfully, Ghost intervened at just the right moment. Talking sex with the beautiful Bailey was way too much right now.

Ghost’s voice broke my thoughts. “Have you even been listening to me?”

My attention snapped back to the conversation. “I’m sorry. Can you repeat what you said?”

“I said you consider joining the Delta Force. What are you waiting for? Once we catch this guy, you’ll be left with idle hands again, doing nothing.”

“I spent four years in an Iranian prison; I’m not finished being idle, and now I’m guarding Bailey.”

Ghost persisted, “When you’re ready, come and work with us.”

“I’ll take another month off and then join you,” I replied. “Now, what’s the plan?”
