“Where would I have the time even to meet someone? I’m with you all the time,” I said shaking my head.

“That’s not my fault. You are the one who is keeping me safe by your side,” Bailey said, frowning at me.

“Okay, you can’t kiss anyone or have sex with another man while we are engaged either,” I glanced at her in time to see her roll her eyes.

I loaded the food box into the truck and drove to Bailey’s cabin. Everything appeared unchanged upon our arrival. After unloading the supplies, I drove my truck to Carly’s so the guy wouldn’t see it. When I returned, Bailey was busy preparing dinner; I went around the cabin and set up noise traps in case Donnie Turner decided to pay Bailey a visit.

“What’s that?” Bailey asked puzzled, pointing to the noise traps I was putting up.

“These are noise traps, I explained. “If he somehow finds your cabin, we’ll hear him when he gets within twenty feet from the cabin.”

“Yes, but won’t an animal set it off as well?” she said, looking like she didn’t trust my trap.

“No, it will only be a bear or a man who will set it off,” she continued, looking at it like I didn’t know what I was doing. “Dinner is ready,” she said before returning to the house.

“I’ll be right there,” I called, watching her walk away. Her hips swayed with each step she took. Damn, my dick was hard again. How the hell was I going to stay this close to Bailey without wanting her the entire time we will be here? I couldn’t believe I’d only known her for a week. It felt like a lifetime.

After washing up I sat down at the table. Being in this cabin with Bailey felt like home. I reminded myself sternly not to get too comfortable here with Bailey. “This is delicious,” I complimented, savoring another bite of the beef stew.

“Thank you,” Bailey replied.

Curious, I inquired, “How long have you lived here?”

“I bought this from my cousins after a relative left it to all of us. They didn’t want it, and I didn’t even know I had cousins until they contacted me. It would have been nice to have known about family nearby. But they wanted nothing to do with me because my father walked away from them when he married my mother.”

“Are your parents still alive?” I asked frowning.

“I don’t know, and I don’t care. They are not my family. I didn’t even know my father, he left us when we were babies, and our mother ran off and left us alone. I’m sure Jackie would still be alive if they had been decent parents.”

“Did you know there are more Petersons here on the mountain?” I asked.

“I don’t want to know them.”

“One of them is with the Delta Force.”

Bailey raised her head higher, and I wondered if she wanted to know her cousins. “I’m sure he doesn’t want to meet me any more than I want to meet him. That’s obvious since he hasn’t come to see me.”

“No one knew who you were before I came here to check if you were alright. Steel knows now that you’re his cousin. Trust me, he’ll be here when he returns from a mission he is on protecting someone,” I said, watching her. Is her eyes watering?

“I hope he doesn’t think I’m going to leave. I have the deed to this property. By the way who would name their child Steel?”

“Steel is his Delta Force name. His real name is Levi Peterson. He doesn’t want your property; he has his own land. I’m sure you’ve seen it on your runs. The swimming hole you enjoy so much is on his property.”

“Are you saying I was on private property when I went swimming, and how do you know I went swimming there?” she asked.

“I heard from someone that saw you swimming there,” I didn’t mention it was while she was skinny dipping.

Her eyes were huge. “Who saw me swimming?” Bailey demanded.

“I don’t know who saw you,” I lied. She looked worried, so I told her it was Carly.

“I’m so glad it was Carly. I was skinny dipping,” she whispered.

“She didn’t mention that,” I lied again. I was becoming a liar so I wouldn’t hurt this woman’s feelings. “I’ll do the dishes since you did the cooking.”

“We’ll do them together; that way, they’ll get done faster. So you’re going to work with your Marine buddies?”

“Yeah, we’re the Delta Force Team. I won’t let anything happen to you.”
