Cole watched me for a moment. “Come on, we are not waiting here for that bastard. We’ll watch him for a while.”

“Where are we going?”

“We’ll stay at Carly’s while she’s away, and when he comes looking for you, we’ll be ready for him. He won’t know what hit him. Grab a few things, and I want to be out of here before dark. He’s on his way.”

“Do you think he’s on his way here? Then let's stay here and kill him. He killed my sister. I want to see him suffer before he dies.”

“Listen to me, Bailey, that man put a body in his house to make everyone believe he was dead. He’ll stop at nothing to get you. I won’t allow him to get close enough to you to kill you. That’s what he wants; he blames you for everything.”

“I don’t care about that. All I want is to kill him. Don’t you understand that monster killed my sister? He strangled her to death. I’ll never find closure until he’s dead. Do you know how difficult it was for me to go to that place and identify my little sister?” Her neck was all black from where he squeezed the life out of her. I can’t get that picture out of my head.”

“I’m sorry you went through that, sweetheart. You need to trust me and follow my lead.”

“I won’t. You can leave if you want. I know what I’m doing; I’ve been planning this since I buried my sister. If I knew it was Donnie Turner following me, I would have killed him before now.”

“I’m not leaving. I won’t hesitate to carry you to Carly’s if I have to. Please don’t make me carry you up the mountain.”

“You need to get your belongings and leave,” Bailey said, “I need to be here alone so that monster will come to my house.”

“Are you fucking crazy? I’m not leaving you here alone.”

“I want you to leave.”

“I’m not going anywhere,” I stopped and looked around, “He’s here; get inside.”

“What? How do you know he’s here?”

“I swear to God, please listen to me; just get inside.”

“Alright, but if you catch him, I’ll kill him,” Bailey said before her body was thrown back. I knew she had been shot. I pulled her inside and locked the door. I called Spartan as I assessed where the bullet hit Bailey. “He’s here, he shot Bailey. Be careful. If you’re nearby, come on foot.”

“I’m on my way there now. Did you see where the bullet hit her?”

“Yeah, it’s her shoulder. She’ll be okay.”

I was cutting Bailey’s shirt when she opened her eyes. “My head hurts. That fucker shot me. How am I going to kill him if I can’t use my hands? Cole, I don’t want you to get hurt. Stay in here with me.”

“I’m fine, sugar. I have to go out there. Spartan is coming back. Hold this over your wound. The bullet is still in there, so don’t move.”

“Please be careful,” she whispered.

“Don’t move; I’m locking the door.”

“I’m not happy.”

“I know.”

I locked the door and walked around the side of the cabin. The idiot was so damn noisy; I spotted Spartan, who had sneaked up behind Turner and struck him on the head, and the guy fell to the ground. Then he carried him to where I was.

“What do you want to do with him?” Spartan asked.

“Bailey is not going to be pleased that he’s still alive. Damn, I might have to take matters into my own hands.”

“Do you want me to find someone who will take care of him for you?”

I looked at Spartan. “Do you know people like that?”

“Yeah, don’t you?”
