“Yes,” I muttered. “Hurry, please.”

“Of course…” They exchanged an uncertain look, and I shoved myself into the nearest vehicle, not giving them a chance to call and confirm my direction.

“Now,” I insisted firmly.

“Yes, Miss Elix.”

One of the senior drivers straightened himself and took to the wheel as I secured myself in the back seat of the SUV,again calling Saint. Once more, the phone went right through to voicemail. I left another text message.

Me: Call me right away. I’m coming to the apartment.

“Where to, miss?”

I provided him with the address in Geldon and gazed out the window, fiddling with the cell phone in my hand. My gaze was fixed on the palace doors, yet no one seemed to emerge to prevent me from leaving.

I was sick inside, twisted and conflicted.

But I would prove them wrong. Cirilla was mistaken. She had gotten Jace all rattled for no reason at all.

I still hadmy key to the apartment in downtown Geldon, but Saint wasn’t home when I got there. I was left to pace around the tiny unit, wringing my hands as I waited for some response from him or a call from Jace.

But neither occurred, and eventually, I sank into the couch and succumbed to my frazzled nerves, drifting off to a fitful sleep.

The sounds of the front door opening and a female giggle roused me immediately, eyes popping open.

“Elix?!”

“Is that your wife?” the busty blonde with my brother demanded angrily, her laugh dying on her lips.

“Get out,” I barked rudely, jumping to my feet.

“Elix, what are you doing here?” Saint demanded, unhooking his arm from around his date’s waist.

“This is unbelievable!” she screeched.

“She’s my sister,” Saint explained.

“GET OUT!” I yelled hysterically, and Saint turned apologetically to the blonde.

“I’m sorry. This is obviously a family emergency. I’ll call you later.”

She sniffed and looked at me as I glowered at her.

“Fine,” she agreed haughtily, turning away. “But you owe me…”

“That’s why you aren’t answering your phone?” I whiplashed at him when she was barely out of earshot. “I’ve been calling you all night!”

“I’m entitled to let loose, too, Elix,” Saint told me, locking the door behind his date before turning to look at me warily. “What’s wrong? Why are you here?”

I stalked toward him, throwing my head back to stare up at him defiantly. “Didyouknow?”

He balked, but shook his head. “Know what? What are you freaking out about?”

“Don’t lie to me, Saint. You warned me not to do the DNA test. You said not to open that ‘can of worms.’ Is that why? Did you know all along?”

“Oh, shit,” he muttered, dropping his keys on the coffee table, and dread overcame me. My suspicions had been right. Saint had known.

“You knew!” I rasped, my knees buckling. “You knew we’re only half-siblings!”
