Beep! Beep! Beep!

Shit. My chicken is ready.

After a delicious meal, I tried to relax on my comfortable red couch and watch some TV, but my mind wouldn’t stop racing. Everything I said to Echo was the truth, but how? How do I show him how much I’ve changed. There’s so much running through my head.

Coming out has got to be a part of that right? My family, as much as I love them, are quite religious. They weren’t the worst, but when I grew up hearing some of the things they said… When I started developing feelings for Echo and realized girl had never made me feel that way, well. I wasn’t exactly keen on stepping out of the closet.

I would have probably repressed it forever if it wasn’t for Echos magnetism. I was drawn to him in a way I’d never been drawn to anyone else. Of course, after Echo I realized some crushes I had before him. That was all B.E. Before Echo.

After Echo I have eyes for no one but him. I can recognize other attractive folks of course, but actually wanting them? Touching them? The idea makes my skin crawl.

Anyway, I’m dialing up Kellen for the fourth time. It’s barely 9 pm so I’m not sure what the hold up is.

His face floods my screen, slightly flushed and sweaty. His hair is wild, and I think his lips are swollen.

“What do you want?”

Guess that explains what was taking so long.

I smirk, “Sorry, I didn’t realize I was interrupting. Y’all are hornier than rabbits in springtime.” When does the honeymoon stage end? Certainly after a year and some change, right?

He looks at me expectantly and I sigh, “You remember when I helped you last year with all your shit with Oliver?”

It’s a rhetorical question. Of course he does.

“…Yeah?” he says, eyebrow raised.

“I need your help that’s what I’m getting at.”

“Well, duh. I picked up on it. I’m just confused why and for what.”

I stand up with my phone in hand and pace the length of my couch. This is a big deal. Someone other than Echo and Cozi will know my secret. Well, certainly know my secret.

I’m sure of all people Kellen suspects.

“I need to convince Echo I’m good for him, that I’m a changed man. But my mind is boggled. I don’t know how to…”

“Okay, breathe,” Kellen says scrubbing a hand through his hair. He shifts the angle and I can see Oliver’s hair on his bare chest. My heart pangs with jealousy. I want that.

“What have you been thinking? What’s the situation?”

I explain what happened in the practice room after they left, and a short summary of the last two years, omitting certain details of course.

“He said ‘actions speak louder than words’ I know that. But how do I show him what I’ve been saying for-”

“Hold on. How long has this been going on? Obviously there’s history, but just how much are we talking?”

“Since high school.” I mumble, turning the screen away slightly to hide my guilty expression.

“WHAT?!” Kellen yells.

Oliver lifts his head so he’s visible on screen, “Are you serious?” he says tiredly, almost a whisper.

Interrupted his sleep to scold me. Wow.

“How did I not realize until like a year or two ago? What happened? What about Cozi?”

The questions were expected but overwhelming all at once. I try to answer them for him the best I can without giving too much of Echo’s personal information.
