"No," she says, drawing the word out. "I wouldn't say he's mad."

"Oh, boy. That doesn't sound worrisome at all."

She laughs quietly.

"Sorry." I grimace. "Um, my mouth works before my brain sometimes."

"I like it," she says, grinning at me. "Come on. I'll take you to see Wes. He'll be happy to see you. He's going out of his mind, worried about you."

"Oh." I cringe, feeling guilty.

She loops her arm through mine and then practically drags me down the hall.

The guard who came with her follows behind us, leaving the door guard alone.

"Thank you," I call over my shoulder to him, lifting my hand to wave.

"Good luck!" he calls back, shaking his head.

Kelsey chatters all the way down the hall. I nod every few feet, but I have no idea what she's saying. I'm way out of shape and I really need to pee, and I swear this hall is eighteen miles long. Jeez. How does she do this in heels all the time?

"So I think you should probably wait right outside the locker room so he sees you before he charges off to the airport," she says.

"Wait, what?" I blink at her.

"He's trying to catch a flight back to you," she says, looking at me. "He thinks you're freaking out about the press."

"Oh. Should I be freaking out?"

Kelsey shrugs. "You can, but it won't help much. If you give them enough to keep them happy, they'll leave you alone sooner rather than later. Something else will come along to grab their attention, and you and Wes will be yesterday's news."

"We should do that then," I murmur, more worried about Weston than about me. Reporters make him grumpy. I don't want them stressing him out any more than is absolutelynecessary. I know they hounded him after his parents died. I don't want that for him again.

"I like you," Kelsey says, grinning at me.

"I'm very likable."

She laughs. "You're good for Wes."

"He's good for me too," I whisper. He's so damn good for me. No one has ever made me feel like he does, like I'm the center of the world. He makes my heart race and gives me butterflies and makes me a little crazy, just like Addison said.

The locker rooms come into view. There's another security guard stationed outside.

"Laney, this is Griggs. Griggs, Laney. She's waiting for Wes," Kelsey says, introducing me to him. Like the one at the door, he's a giant.

The final buzzer sounds.

"Shit. I've got to run before he manages to slip out a side door," Kelsey says, already taking off down the hall at a quick jog. "Stay here and wait for us, Laney."

I look at Griggs. Griggs looks at me.

"I need to pee," I whisper.

"Laney!" Weston yells asI'm pulling my pants up.

I jump, startled. Jeez. He's loud. Glad I already peed. Facing an arena full of reporters with pee on my pants would be all kinds of awkward and humiliating.

I quickly flush the toilet and turn to wash my hands.
