I grunt instead of answering, not sure I'm ready to pour my heart out to him. I barely know her. It's probably not normal to be this twisted up over someone you just met. But I am anyway. I like her, a helluva lot more than I anticipated. And it's not just because I want to fuck her repeatedly—which I do. It's this feeling I can't shake. Like my entire world is wobbling on its axis and she's the only thing that'll stabilize it.

"Kelsey said you would."

"You talked to Kelsey about me?" That's new. He usually just stares at her from across the room and gets all grumpy when anyone else talks to her.

"I talked to Kelsey about the situation," he says. "You're under a lot of stress."

"I'm fine, Kris."

"And yet you're glowering at everyone."

I glower at him…and then curse.

"Fuck, fine," I growl, giving up. I feel like a teenager talking about girls, but it's not like Kris doesn't already know my business. He probably knows less about women than I do. They give him anxiety or some shit. But he's here and he's asking, so fuck it. "She doesn't like athletes or date clients, and I was awkward as fuck and offered to fire her, and then brought up a painful time for her. Now, I don't know how to fix it."

"You want to fix it?"

"Obviously. I need a publicist."

"And?"

"And I fucking like her. Jesus. Are we in high school here or what?" I bitch, scrubbing my hand down the back of my neck.

"Nah but seeing you all twisted up over a woman is fucking me up," he says.

I flip him off, which makes him laugh.

"You'll fix it, Gray," he says as if it's a foregone conclusion. He smacks me on the shoulder hard enough to knock me forward two steps. "You're a smart man."

I guess he missed the part where I said I offered to fire her.

"Women like to know you're sincere. Show her that you are, and she'll forgive you for being stupid."

"I thought you said I was a smart man," I complain.

He grins at me. "The only thing that separates a smart man from a stupid one is the fact that smart men know they're stupid, brother. The stupid ones don't." He smacks me on the back again and chuckles. "I'll keep Kelsey off your back."

I wait until he's almost to the door to call out to him.

"You realize that keeping her off my back requires speaking to her, right?"

He flips me the bird.

"Hey. Can I cut practice Friday and Saturday?"

"If you plan to practice like you did today, yes."

"Why do I even talk to you?"

"Because everyone else thinks you've lost your goddamn mind."

"Wait. Really?"

"Nah." He grins at me again. "They know you're insane and accepted it a long time ago."

"Man, fuck you," I say, laughing. "Asshole."

He flashes me another grin and then ducks out of the locker room, leaving me on my own. I close my locker and put my shoes on, mulling over his advice. I'm still not convinced he knows what he's talking about, but it's not like I can fall any lower in Camila's opinion at this point, right?
