He had her convinced. It would be nice to get some food in their bellies. The food supply had been dwindling.“Okay.”

Jameson grinned.“I’ll be right back.I need to get some clothes on.” He kissed her on the temple and headed back toward the bedroom.

“Good thing I have a dryer.”

Yeah, so jumping into the bathtub fully clothed hadn’t been the wisest decision, but he hadn’t needed clothes until now.“What can I say, I wasn’t thinking with my big head.Well, bigger.” He turned around to give her a full view of his head. Both of them. His cock was hard and eager to show her just how big he was.

Morgan rolled her eyes before looking at her computer screen and then back to him.“Jameson,” she called after him.“Do you think Simon is connected to Brooklyn’s situation?”

He did. There were just too many coincidences for it to be random.Meeting Simon right after Lawry’s arrest and the fact her client was looking for a property where Drake lived. The same place Lawry was attacked by a bear.

Jameson should tell her the truth. Here was his chance to tell her about Lawry.“No, not at all.” He didn’t want to worry her if his hunch proved false. He’d have someone at the office look into Simon Valentine. He needed to crack the code on Rick Banner’s notes.

“You’re asking a lot of questions about him,” she commented, following him into the bedroom.

“I’m a detective, it’s an occupational hazard,” he responded in a teasing tone, trying to ease her concern because she was getting too close to the truth.“Besides, call me a little jealous.”

“Jealous?” She laughed.“You have nothing to be jealous of.” She absently rubbed her bicep where the bruise was.

“Is this the same person who left the bruise on your arm?” If it was, he was a dead man.Jameson didn’t care if the man was rich and he was a cop.Simon bruised his girlfriend. He was dead.

Morgan hesitated, which was all the answer that he needed.“Yes, but please don’t concern yourself about it.” She rushed out to add, “He got a little handsy, but I set him straight.”

“I trust you, love.” It was Simon Valentine he didn’t trust.“I’ll get showered and dressed so we can go.Unless you care to join me?”

Morgan hesitated before shaking her head.“I really need to get some of this work done.”

“Alright, love.Be back in a few.” He gave her a quick peck and left.

Chapter 21

As much as Morgan loved watching Jameson walk away—his muscles bunching and flexing as he walked—she needed to be somewhat productive this weekend. So far all she had accomplished were multiple orgasms and relearning Jameson.Inside and out.

Which was great. She couldn’t say they’d picked things up where they’d left off, but it wasn’t starting over either. He was so attentive. Not once trying to leave her to go to work or turning his phone on to check in.

It allowed them time to re-familiarize themselves with each other and just focus on the here and now. They could exist in this little bubble in the apartment and forget about the outside world.

If she didn’t know better, she’d think he’d done it on purpose to distract her from Friday night. As sweet as it was he turned his phone off, it was out of character for him.It was as if he was afraid something at work would pull him away from her.

As much as she would like to think it was all to spend time with her, she had seen him look out the window more than once.He was watching for her attacker. As if he knew something she didn’t.As if he knew the person would come back again.Which meant her attack hadn’t been random.Wouldn’t Jameson have told her if she was in danger though?

Morgan looked back toward the bedroom. She couldn’t shake the feeling he was hiding something from her.He suspected Simon of something, but she didn’t know what.Surely he didn’t think Simon was her attacker. He didn’t even know the man or anything about him.

Sure, she had been suspicious of him at first but had quickly dismissed it.Simon Valentine was a libertine, not a killer.

She’d been fearful the other night when he’d grabbed her arm, but looking back now, she didn’t think he would have harmed her.He was just a man used to getting his way.Men who could throw around two million dollars for a property without even blinking usually did.

Morgan got up and poured herself another cup of coffee and stared down at her work. She was getting frustrated because not many properties fitting Simon’s specifications existed, at least in the area he was looking at.

As a realtor, it was her job to take the dream property and make it work with reality.Simon was just going to have to learn to settle on a property elsewhere.Nothing existed where he wanted. It was one of the drawbacks of her job.To find a compromise that hopefully made everyone happy.

Morgan wasn’t even sure Simon was still her client after Friday night, but she still wanted to present him with something.Proof that she could remain professional and maybe he could think of it as a peace offering.

Right now she needed a break and to talk to her best friend. It had been a few days, which was out of character for her. While Brooklyn was in hiding was the longest she had gone from talking to her friend. She looked at her phone, and her eyes bugged when she saw all the missed calls from Brooklyn.

“You are alive.I was starting to wonder.Even Drake couldn’t get a hold of Jameson.I was starting to fear the worst,” was the first thing Brooklyn said when she answered.

“No, we’re fine.Just a little preoccupied the past few days.”
