“I miss you, Sean,” she manages. “I miss you so much. Can we start over? Not as a fling or friends with benefits, but as something real? As an actual honest-to-goodness couple?”

“Are you asking me out on a date, Becca?” My question is cautious. Wary. Not because I’m still holding a grudge, but because of how much this could count going forward.

“Yeah. I guess I am.”

“In that case, then, yes.” It takes her a while to quit sobbing, but once she does, I ask her one last question. “Do you like those meals you’ve been sending me?”

“They’re some of my favorites.”

“Well, then I know just where to take you on our first date.”

Epilogue

Sean

It’s March. Becca and I have been dating—properly—for the past several weeks. We’ve been taking our time and feeling each other out, purposely avoiding the hastiness of our relationship previous to now.

Last night we made a landmark decision and once again made love, but this time, Becca spent the entire night in my arms afterward. As I stare at her sweet, freckled features and the stripes of green framing her face as she dozes beside me, I feel a warmth in my chest, a link between us that’s much thicker and sturdier than before.

She wakes, her bright gaze locking onto mine. And as she blinks into wakefulness, her red hair a delightful mess, she lifts a hand to my cheek. I grab it, kissing the palm, and though she’s visibly unclothed and my body has already responded to this fact, it’s more than libido that’s calling me to close the distance again.

I open my mouth to tell her something vital, and somehow, we speak at the same time.

“I love you,” we say in unison, then gape at one another before saying again like an echo, “You do?”

She smiles, her eyes dancing, and we chuckle into each other’s mouths as we latch onto each other in a sultry kiss.

And as I start to make love to her again, I know I’ll be perfectly happy to stay like this with her for the next several eternities.

Find out what happens when a mountain man shows up in his home town after choosing the big city over his roots and the love of his life. Are all the bridges burned? Is there a chance she’ll give him another chance?

Single Dad Hero

I like my life as a single mom, at least mostly. My son is my main focus, but I do miss dating. Some mystery and romance would be nice. But my son is my everything and I take my mom job seriously. And if I'm honest, as much as I miss having a special man in my life, I'm definitely afraid of getting my heart broken again.

When I literally run into Trip Harding at the summer school day care, I can't get over his easy going personality and superhandsome face. Our first date was a long time coming, but it turns out to be amazingly sexy.

But this thing between us got too complicated, too fast. I can't take the heat so I have to get out of the kitchen as they say. But ignoring Trip is harder than I expected. Flashbacks to our night together make me want to end the silent treatment.

And then when I need help the most, he's there. Maybe he's exactly what I need and maybe he's the one I always hoped I could count on.
