“It's about the decision to marry Jack…” I started. My voice trembled as I was about to say the next sentence. “I love somebody else,” I said it.

There was an awkward silence in the room. My father looked at me and wrinkled his forehead. I could see the disappointment on his face. The anger he exuded was hot enough to heat the room. He fumed.

As those words left my mouth, I found the courage to stand my ground and tell him what I felt for Ben. I told him more about Ben and the more I spoke the more he fumed.

“Dad, I love Ben so much. He’s a single father, but my heart belongs to him. These past few days have been the best days of my life, and I've never experienced that with Jack. I just want you to know I love Ben, and there's nothing anyone can do to change that.” I explained. His fist was folding as he heard metalk about Ben. His teeth pressed together, and I could see anger on his face. At that point, I didn’t care.

“Enough!” He snapped. His breath was shaky and heavy.

My father's anger was a tempest within him, a turbulent sea of emotion that surged through his veins. His face contorted with fiery intensity, his brows furrowed deeply, and his eyes blazed with a burning intensity that could scorch the earth. His voice, usually calm and measured, thundered with frustration and disappointment, one word striking like a lightning bolt.

At that moment, his anger was palpable, a force to be reckoned with. It was a storm I’d inadvertently triggered, and I could feel the raw power of his fury as it engulfed the room, leaving me in its tumultuous wake. But what had to be said, had to be said. I had no regrets.

“Are you listening to yourself?” He rose.

“Yes,” I said in the calmest tone. I’d promised myself not to join his rage regardless of what he said. I was picking my life and putting it back in place. No one, not even my father, could stop me.

“You’re not even remorseful. Take those words back, Olivia.” He was shouting.

“What words? That I love Ben and I’ll want to spend the rest of my life with him?” I asked. “Dad! You didn’t raise me to be a liar and if I take those words back it would be going against your teachings. I’d be a liar.” My voice was calm.

Aside from what I was saying, my calmness forced more rage on my father.

“Then I’m sorry I can’t be part of that. It goes against every word I’d shared with Jack’s family right from the start. Just take it as a decision you made on your own, but you don’t have my blessing.” He said and walked away.

Aunt Nelly ran after him to stop him and make him renounce what he had said. She was seated close by and was listening toour conversation. She wouldn’t catch up with him, so she came back in, sighed, and shook her head. She couldn’t believe what she had just witnessed.

I stood up and went to my room. The weight of the lie I’d told my father hung heavily on my conscience. It was a small deception, but it had grown into a monstrous guilt within me. As I sat on my bed, thinking about it, I could feel the guilt gnawing at my soul.

His words pierced my heart like a thousand needles. The pain of his disapproval was unbearable. At that moment, I realized the irreparable damage I’d caused. Tears welled up in my eyes, but it was too late, and I didn’t regret telling him what I felt for Ben.

I’d lost my dad’s trust, and the chasm between us felt insurmountable. The ache of regret nearly settled in my chest as a constant reminder of the irreversible mistake I’d made. But it was all for a good course and that was my consolation.

Now, all that needed to be done was to make right with Ben. I prepared and got to his house. I stood at the door and honestly, I almost chickened out. But I was already there, so I might as well get it over with.

The door opened, and it was Ben. He wanted to close the door, but I intercepted it with my leg.

“Just listen to what I’ve to say first. You can make your decision after that, and if it is to still send me away, I’ll go.” I said.

He looked at me and then opened the door wide. I walked in and started talking immediately.

“Jack is nothing but my ex…” I started. “I don't have anything to do with him anymore. My father was forcing him on me, but I told him that I didn't want to be with him. Jack has been pressuring me since then and my dad, too.

We just had a heated argument earlier today, and my dad told me that he doesn't want to see me anymore and that he was disowning me as his daughter.” I couldn’t look at Ben anymore.

I continued talking. “Ben, I love you. I’ve never loved anyone as much as I love you. I want to be in your life and your son's life.”

These words melted his heart. I saw his heart from his facial expression.

“You know I’m not the meekest of men, and I’ve had my moments. I mean I’m still learning to adjust, but…”

“…I know of all that, Ben. But take it or leave it, I want to be with you and you alone. I love you, Ben. I’m in love with you.” I interrupted him.

Ben looked at me with deep affection written on his face. I could tell he wanted to kiss me, but I didn’t know why he hesitated. I wasn’t going to let this moment slide, so I kissed him first. We kissed with passion and affection.

I felt his hands make gentle and precise movements on my body. I loved how I felt with him at that moment. He grabbed me by the thighs and threw me on himself.

“Let’s take this to my room, I’ve a son who could bump into us any moment.” He said in a deep tone, and I found it very sexy.
