Eli

High in the Sierra, in the small town of Donner, my boyfriend and I were working hard to stay warm under a heavy blanket of winter snow. Not really. It was toasty warm in the small apartment we now shared that was connected to Randy’s parents’ house.

Randy writhed under me as I pounded into him. “Ugh,” he grunted, and pushed back hard against me while grabbing my ass.

“Randy,” I whispered, and trailed my lips along his neck. My hands glided up his arms until my fingers wove with his and I clasped his hands. His back arched but his legs were still locked around my waist as I continued in all my efforts to drive him as close to the edge without letting him fall.

“Eli, please,” he pleaded, as sweat broke out across his brow. Looking down on him I couldn’t believe he was mine. I’d wanted him for so long, and it felt like he was a dream that would never come true, but over the past year that had changed.

Loosening my grip on one of his hands I slowly grazed my fingers down his body and reached for his dick. He was so hard it looked painful, but I knew as soon as I touched him, he’d find sweet relief. I leaned in for one more kiss before gripping him, and after only one stroke he came. The sensations overwhelmed me, and I tumbled right along behind him.

We’d taken so long to finally be together, not because we wanted to but because Randy broke his leg and had a full cast up to his hip. That didn’t stop us from doing other things.

“When did you say your aunt wants the Valentine’s Day cookies?” Randy asked after we’d cleaned up and gone back to the living room to relax.

“She wanted them as soon as we could get them done. They were such a hit last year she wants to build a whole display around them and set up a station where customers can make up their own basket or gift box for their Valentine.” I worked at my aunt Carol’s gift shop, and we were always busy, but adding Randy’s deliciously creative cookies had also brought us new customers.

“What do you think about starting them today, then we can freeze a few batches and have them ready to frost when we need them.” Randy was a genius when it came to baking, but he doubted his instincts on how to run his cookie business, P.M. Kisses.

“That’s a great idea. We can make a lot if we’re not stopping to decorate.”

“Exactly what I was thinking too. I’m going to take a quick inventory and see if we have enough supplies or if we need to goshopping before we start.” He kissed me before hurrying out of the living room and into the kitchen.

He opened a few cupboards and the refrigerator while scribbling down information on the notepad he kept in the kitchen just for this. “What do you think?” I asked as I came up behind him, and after wrapping my arms around his waist and kissing his cheek, I peeked over his shoulder at what he’d written.

“We need a few things,” he said, while his focus was still on the list.

“I’m not surprised after the cookie swap and all the cookie orders you filled this year. The business has really taken off.” I was so proud of him. He’d wanted to start a business selling cookies for years but didn’t think his cookies were good enough. He was very wrong.

“We did pretty well. Nearly double what we did last year. If it keeps up like this, we’ll need to rent out a professional kitchen.” He smiled when he said it, full of pride and happiness at knowing how much everyone loved his work.

“Do you think so? I thought that’s why you set up this kitchen the way you did.” Randy lived in the apartment by his parents for more reasons than cheap rent. We had planned to move into my old apartment, but decided if we moved into Randy’s place, we could afford to upgrade the kitchen to make it more efficient for his business. But as that business grew, we both knew we’d far underestimated how much space we needed.

He turned in my arms to face me before speaking. “I love having you here, but I don’t want us to live where we work. I thought it would be ideal, but it’s not. If we’re going to do more business, we’ll need to get a bigger space.”

I kissed his lips then and pulled him close. “Then we’ll find a space. There are a few small restaurants that went out ofbusiness that are just off Main Street, maybe one of those would work.”

“That’s a good idea. I never considered using a restaurant. I guess we could actually sell cookies out of it too, but I’d rather keep it the way it is now. The website has been doing great, and I have to admit I love filling orders way more than dealing with people face to face.”

“Even when they’re telling you how much they love your cookies?” Since Randy started selling his cookies at some of the local stores, they were in demand. And every time he came up with a new recipe, sales spiked. He may not have been a people person, but he was definitely a good baker.

“It is nice to know they like them.” He still struggled with low self-esteem, but he couldn’t dismiss how popular he was around town.

“You know, we still need to make plans for our Valentine’s Day. Did you want to go to dinner at the top of Palisades again?”

His expression softened, and he settled his hand on my cheek. “I’m happy to go anywhere with you. But you already knew that.” He grinned before kissing me again and going back to check his list. “I think I have everything down. Did you want me to go get everything?”

“I don’t mind going with you. Plus, I want to make sure you get home in one piece this time.”

“Falling down at the grocery store was a fluke. What’s the chance of it happening again?”

“I’m not sure, and I don’t want to know. Come on, we need to get a few things for the week anyway.”

We walked outside and I was glad some of the snow was gone and the day was warmer, but spring was definitely not around the corner. “I’m ready for a sunny day,” I said as we both hurried to the car.

“Me too, but the cold does make good baking weather,” he said, and I wanted to kiss him so bad.
