I snort, pretty sure he passed crazy way before then. But I'm tired so I don't tell him that.

Chapter Nine

Andreas

"Wearenothavingsex right now, Andreas Romano," Catriona shouts, darting around the island away from me. "I'm busy trying to learn things!"

Three days ago, she decided she wanted to learn everything there is to learn about Romano International. I brought her home a bunch of old articles and press releases and historical documents about the company. She spends part of every day going through them, peppering me with questions no one alive knows the damn answers to. She doesn't like that much.

It's been a little over a week since Houston, and everything has been fucking perfect between us. Better than that. I never imagined my life could be a goddamn fairytale, but if ever a woman could make friends with birds and breathe magic into the world, it's Catriona. She's certainly breathed magic into my world. Every day with her is better than the last.

I grin and prowl toward her. "Good. You can learn how to sit on the island like a good girl and let me eat you for dessert," I say.

"I…" She pauses, thinking about it. And then she quickly shakes her head and darts around the other side of the island. "No way. Autumn almost caught us in the living room last night. You have to keep your hands to yourself outside of the bedroom."

"Uh, fuck no."

"Uh, heck yes," she says, making me chuckle.

"Have you ever said a curse word in your life, rabbit?"

"I say curse words."

"Yeah?" I stop chasing after her and lean up against the counter, crossing my arms. I'm dying to hear this. "Like what?"

"Damn and hell," she says.

A grin overtakes my face as her chin comes up, her nose shooting into the air in a haughty display. She's too goddamn cute. I'm not even going to tell her those don't even fucking count as curse words.

"Come here and kiss me," I say and then curse when my phone immediately rings.

She smirks at me, scooping her shit up off the island and darting out of the kitchen before I can get my hands on her. That's all right though. I already know exactly where she's going.

I pull my phone out of my pocket, frowning when I see Cash's number on the screen. We haven't talked much lately. I'm not sure if he's avoiding me or if I'm avoiding him. Maybe a little bit of both. He's still pissed Giant and I went sniffing around Copper Creek. And I'm not looking forward to telling him about Catriona.

I'm not ashamed of her in the least. I'll fight for her against all comers. But he's already been through hell because of my father's involvement with his company. And Catriona's brother ordered the attack on his pregnant wife. The only reason she's safe is because they fucked up and got her twin instead. He's got enough stress on his plate right now.

But I've put it off for long enough already.

I swipe to answer.

"Hey, brother," I murmur, putting the phone to my ear.

"Hey," he says. "We need you at the clubhouse. Emergency meeting."

"Shit. What's going on?"

"Cowboy found a fucking note on his door," he growls. "Looks like Brady left it there." Brady is our former piece of shit prospect. He caused us nothing but grief before he sold some information to the Vipers and then disappeared on us. We hoped he'd stay gone. Apparently not. "They're threatening to come after our women."

"Jesus Christ," I breathe.

"Do me a favor?"

"Whatever you need."

"Don't take this the wrong way, brother," he says, his voice soft. "But you might want to think about leaving Catriona at home tonight. Cowboy's mad as hell. Hands will be too. I don't want her to overhear anything that she takes the wrong way."

I pause for a long moment, staring blankly at the porcelain countertop.
