I nodded. “Brielle is gorgeous. No doubt there.”

“So are you,” he said softly. “You’re actually my type.”

The compliment took me off-guard. My cheeks warmed, and I looked at the tray of food.

“What do you mean, your type?” I asked, genuinely curious.

He took a fried ravioli from the tray and popped it in his mouth as he looked around my house. “This is what I love.”

“Christmas décor?”

Hunter laughed, shaking his head. “Your home is so inviting and warm. You should see my apartment back in Madison. It’s so sleek and cold and…”

“You didn’t decorate?”

He shook his head. “You know what it is?”

“I honestly don’t.”

“It’s like I checked out of my own life two years ago when things started taking off for me. I didn’t know what to do with all the success.”

“I could see that.”

“Anyway, I want a home. I want a family.” Hunter let out a blissful sigh. “But I’m not going to force anything ever again. If it happens, it happens.”

I nodded in agreement. “I’m more of a serial flirter and less of a relationship person.”

“Tell me.” He smiled, and I felt my belly knot into a tangle of lust. “When was the last relationship you’ve had?”

That was definitely what this had to be.

“You won’t believe me.” I reached for a taquito and took a bite.

“Try me.”

“I’ve never been in one.”

“Hold on. You wanted to dissect my relationship, and you haven’t been in one? Ever?”

I chuckled. “It gives me a unique perspective. Anyway, it’s better that way. I like to have my freedom. If I want to pack up Foxy and head to the woods, I can. If I want to stay in on a Friday night and read a good book, no one stops me.”

Hunter nodded, tapping his finger on the counter. “What if you found someone who loaded Foxy up for camping for you or read alongside with you?”

The energy in the room shifted as I randomly saw a vision of my future.

And it included Hunter.

I blinked my eyes and let out a shaky breath asLittle Drummer Boydrifted through the air.

This had only happened one other time before, and good things didn’t follow.

I used the counter to brace myself as his eyes stayed on mine.

His smile broke the spell as he studied me. “You’re a complicated soul, Daisy.”

“Sorry. I just…”

Hunter shook his head. “Don’t apologize. Just eat more taquitos.”
