“Yup. You only live once.”

I opened the door. “I’ll have to remember that.”

The store was super cute and full of every kind of dress imaginable, but with prom season only a couple of months away, it felt like a glitter bonanza.

“Oooh. Wow.” Mae’s hand caressed a pink sequined dress. “This would say something for sure.”

I giggled and nodded. “That I’m homecoming queen?”

I scanned the store, finally landing on a section not geared toward seventeen-year-olds and made my way over with Mae right behind me.

Gianna, who was the daughter of the woman who owned the store, stepped out from behind the counter and waved.

“Hi, Ladies.” She beamed, walking over to us. “Anything I can help you find?”

“I’m going to an anniversary party over in Seattle.”

“Oh, fun.” Gianna nodded. “Is it black tie or…?”

“I got that impression.”

“It’s with Lucas Edwards,” my sister piped in, and my cheeks blushed.

Gianna’s eyes widened. “Oh, then you definitely need formal.”

I nodded in agreement as her hands swept over an ivory, beaded lace dress.

“This would be stunning.” She took the hanger off the rack and held it up. “It’s hard to tell, but this plunges nicely inthe front without being too revealing, but the surprise is in the back.”

She spun it around to show off the backless dress.

“You always look spectacular in mermaid fits,” Mae said, sliding her hand over the beadwork.

“It’s all hand-sewn,” Gianna said as I glanced at the price tag.

I held in a whistle, but I could see why it cost so much. It was beautiful.

“What do you say? Do you want to try it on?” Gianna asked.

I glanced at my sister and then nodded.

“Perfect. Right this way.”

I followed Gianna into the back where the fitting rooms were as she hung the dress up on a hook, and I stepped inside.

“I’ll be out here if you need me.”

“Thank you,” I told her, closing the curtain before staring at the dress.

My hand moved along the beadwork, and I couldn’t help but fall in love with it a little more.

I pulled my sundress over my head and folded it on a chair before pulling the gown off the hanger. My fingers worked the buttons and zipper and I gingerly slid into the gown. The silky fabric glided across my skin.

I glanced in the mirror and was taken aback. A chill ran through me as I noticed the fabric clinging to my curves. I worked the zipper up and finagled the buttons while staring at myself in the mirror.

“Well?” Mae asked outside the curtain.

“It’s gorgeous, but it’s almost too perfect for a wedding… as in I’d be the bride.”
