“Yep. Ladies never miss me.”

Dog grunted, and Charley laughed as she withdrew her hand. “Nothing wrong with your ego,” she said.

“Why be humble when I got the stamina to back it up?” Cutter replied. Looking at Dog, he held out his hand. “Keys and address?”

Charley’s brow furrowed as her gaze slid to his.

Dog answered the question in her eyes. “Cutter’s going to move your car from the Round’s parking lot. Where do you want him to take it?”

Her mouth dropped open, and her gaze whipped between the men. “That’s too much to ask, really. Just take me to my car—”

Cutter shut her down. “Pretty lady, my brother asked a favor, and I aim to do it. Give me your keys and an address. I’ll get it handled.”

Her lips formed a thin line. “You men are very bossy.”

Cutter laughed and held out his hand. “You have no idea.”

Dog stifled a snort. Cutter was a legend around the clubhouse. More women than the rest of the brothers, and that was saying something. Word was he leaned toward kink. Bondage and shit. Dog didn’t know and didn’t want to. What a brother did with his dick was his business.

Charley stuck a hand into her huge purse and managed to pull out a set of keys without looking inside. She handed Dog the balloons, worked off the fob, and held it out to Cutter. “105 Reeves Street. Just leave it in the driveway with the fob in the cup holder. It’ll be okay.”

Cutter wrapped his fingers around hers as he took the fob and gave them a squeeze. “Hope you’re feeling better. I’ll make sure you get to see me again real soon.”

And with a grin, he slipped the plastic square into his vest and headed to the elevators.

“He’s a piece of work,” Charley whispered as Dog guided her toward Jessie’s room.

Now Dog did snort. A piece of work who was going to get his ass kicked for eying what was Dog’s. “He’s a good brother. That’s the only reason I put up with him.”

“How did he get that nasty scar?”

Dog shook his head. “Long story and not mine to tell. Let’s just say someone took advantage of him when he was young, but the club evened the score.”

Charley’s face looks pained, but they had reached Jessie’s room, so Dog didn’t ask why. He knocked and got a “come in”. He shoved open the door and let Charley enter first, like some kind of gentleman. Maybe he’d learned something from his mom after all.

Balloons knocked against the door frame and Dog’s head as Charley passed him. He swatted them away.

When Charley got inside, she stopped. Dog stepped forward and looked at the room. Jessie was propped up in the bed. Sophie was holding a book with lots of pictures and looked like she was reading to her. Luke was rubbing his face like he’d just woken up.

“Uncle Dog!” Jessie squealed and held out her arms. Dog moved to the bed and hugged her little body. She wrapped her arms tight around his neck. She felt too warm. “I’m so happy you’re here. I’m totally bored.”

Dog laughed as he pulled away. “Don’t know that I can help with that, little one. I’m pretty boring myself.”

She screwed up her cute nose. “No, you’re not. I played War with you and I won.”

Dog remembered that day. Luke had brought Sophie and Jessie to a club family picnic. It was the first time the club had met them. Jessie had won everyone over that day, including Dog.

“Yes, you did. You’re killer at War.”

She giggled. “I know.”

Dog ruffled her hair, then leaned across the bed and kissed Sophie on the cheek. When he pulled back, he caught her gaze. “You doing okay?”

She smiled and nodded, but there were tears in her eyes. “Thanks for coming.”

Luke crossed the room and gave Dog a quick hug. “Hey, man.”

“Hey yourself.” Dog turned to Charley and motioned her forward. “This is Charley. She wanted to give Jessie something.”
