She huffed at his teasing and he laughed again. “I understand. But just so you know, I don’t have any experience withthiseither.” He sighed, dropping his forehead to hers.

“With sex?”

He rolled his eyes playfully. “Is that all you think about, Belle?” She tried to shove him off but he pulled her back. “No, with this,” he gestured between them. “Withmore.”

“Oh…” was all she said.

“But, I will say that last night was my number one of all time.”

She shook her head. “Will, I-”

He interrupted her denials. “You rocked my world, Rebelle.”

She snorted and shoved him away again.

“I’m serious.” His grip circled her wrist and pulled her to him, her palms coming up against his chest and he turned her hand over placing a kiss to the center of her palm. Then another to the scar on her wrist that he now knew was a cigarette burn, working his way up until he was at her neck, inhaling her wildly seductive scent and flicking his tongue over her hammering pulse.

“Will,” she sighed, leaning against him, her hands trailing down his back and resting on his ass possessively. A tremor of anticipation moved through him, he liked when she owned him.

His nose brushed over her cheek, his lips moved against her ear. “Round two?”

Her phone rang loudly, and he groaned. “I’m regretting getting you that.”

Rebelle answered and moved away so Will went by each of the kennels, petting the dogs who had been watching them curiously. Then he went to inspect the work going on in the new cattery.

Rebelle appeared at his side. “That was the vet. They’ve got a dog who needs looking after for a while. It was quite cryptic so I’m not sure what we’re dealing with.”

“Want me to come with?”

She shook her head. “I’ll go. I could do with some air.”

He didn’t push her, couldn’t imagine the maelstrom of emotions she would be dealing with. He followed her back into the main area and watched as she surveyed the full kennels.

“Need more space,” she muttered, her frown in place.

He broached the subject he knew she was avoiding. “We need to start adoptions. The website should be done. I’ll get a local photographer to come down and take some pictures of them all and get things moving.” Her lips pulled into a mulish line, just like they did every time he mentioned adoptions. “You can’t keep them all, Belle. They need homes,” he said softly, stroking her arm.

“I know!” she snapped, pulling away.

“Then what’s the issue?”

“No one is good enough for them,” she growled.

His expression softened, he loved her love for them and how fiercely she cared. “What if I promise you an incredibly rigorous and thorough adoption process?”

“Maybe,” she harrumphed, folding her arms across her chest and her grumpy frown stayed where it was.

“In the meantime, I know how we can free up one kennel,” he singsonged.

She turned her gumdrop eyes on him. “Yeah?”

He went over to Bryan’s kennel and opened it. The hound immediately went to Rebelle’s side and her hand automatically buried in his fur.

“Yeah. You could stop pretending he isn’t yours,” Will said, his eyebrow cocked in challenge.

Rebelle glanced down at the canine before turning back to Will, a gorgeous half smile quirking her lips. The sight of it was enough to knock the wind out of his lungs and Will’s brain screamedminewith such force, it startled him.

“No, I can’t.”
