“Oh?” I’d heard her and her sister talk about some lacrosse guy Audrey was friends with, but I hadn’t really paid that close of attention. Apparently I should have.

Ella nodded. “Her and Parker, well… I think there’s something there. Even if she’s denying it.” She poked at her dessert, quiet for a few moments. “You want to live with me, right?”

“Of course I do.”

“Then…” She worried her lower lip between her teeth. “Yes?”

I interlaced our fingers and squeezed her hand. “You don’t think it’s too soon?”

“Well…” Her nose scrunched up. “By the time the semester’s over, it’ll be six months. Plus, the summer doesn’t really count, right? We’ll both be home, anyway. I’d rather live with you than with someone random.”

“Don’t know if I will.” I cleared my throat. “Go home, that is.”

She looked at me funny. “You don’t have an internship lined up with your dad’s firm?”

“I did. I mean, Ido,it’s just…” I ran my fingers through my hair. “Spent the last few months thinking a lot about the future. About what I want.”

“Oh.” She looked sullen, and I almost laughed. Did she think I’d changed my mind?

“Princess, look at me,” I murmured, my lips curling up as she offered me those beautiful eyes. “Aboutourfuture. Together.”

“Oh,”she said again.

“Yeah.” I nodded. “I want to be wherever you are. I want you at my side. Or me, at your side. Wherever that is. Okay? So if you want to move in together, I want nothing more. If you want to spend the summer together here, I’d be okay with that. If you want to go home, that’s fine too.”

“You could come with me, you know,” she offered, her voice low. “My parents would be okay with that.”

“Are you sure?” I didn’t think they’d really be too happy about the idea of me spending the summer living in their daughter’s room, but I’d do whatever I could to spend more time with her.

Her head bobbed in response. “Yes. What do you want?”

“Everything.”

The same thing I always had.

After I paid the bill, we headed back down to get the car and head back to campus. It was the perfect night—even if I hadn’t had the chance to confess yet. I didn’t want to ruin the moment, as perfect as it was.

My phone buzzed as we slipped back into the car.

Dad

I’ll be in town next week.

I made dinner reservations for Saturday night at 7. The usual place.

I expect you to be there.

Cam

Okay.

Bring the girl you’ve been seeing with you, too.

I want to meet her.

Ella looked over at me. “What is it?”

I shook my head. “Nothing.” There was no saying no to my dad, as much as I didn’t really want to go—and even more that I didn’t want to drag Ella into my family drama.
