“Don’t look at me like that,” I groaned.

“Like what?” She asked innocently, brushing past me to enter my bedroom.

“You know what,” I muttered under my breath, but then I was really taking in all of her, and my tongue got tied in my mouth.

I swallowed roughly, my eyes trailing down her frame. “Ella, you look…” There weren’t enough words in the dictionary to describe how beautiful she was. “Holy fuck.”

“You think?” She sat on the edge of my bed, smoothing down the fabric. “It’s an Ella Grace original, you know. I hear one day they’ll be high in demand.” Her shoes peeked out of her dress—a pair of sparkly Keds she wore regularly—as she swung them back and forth.

“I know so. Because I’ll definitely have the most gorgeous girl at the whole formal at my side. But…” I gave her a smirk. “You’re missing something.”

She frowned, looking down at her dress. It was gorgeous—a shade of dark, midnight blue that made her eyes shine like the fucking night sky. Gorgeous was an understatement. “I am?”

Nodding, I pulled out her shoes from behind my back. Those silver, sparkling heels she’d left in my room that first night. I’d given them back to her before, but the last time she’d worn them over here, I’d stashed them in my closet on purpose.

“Cam!” she gasped, playfullyswatting at my arm. “I was looking for those.” Standing up, Ella reached her hand out for the shoes, but I pulled them back.

I flicked my tongue against the roof of my mouth. “Princess, have you not learned by now?” I guided her to the chair, having her sit in it like a throne, as I kneeled down in front of her. “I’m always going to take care of you.”

Placing a kiss on her ankle, I guided the right foot into the straps, buckling it around her ankle before moving to the other foot. I kissed that one too, repeating the process before putting both feet back on the ground.

“The perfect fit.” I looked up at her, something warming at my chest at the fact that we were here, and she wasmine.

“How do they feel?”

Ella wiggled her toes. “Perfect. Let’s just hope I don’t trip in them.”

“Mmm. You’re perfect,” I said, standing up and offering her a hand, pulling her towards me. “Clumsy and all.”

My girl rolled her eyes. “It’s not my fault! The ground is just…” She looked up into my eyes, trailing off with her objection.

“Don’t worry. I’m always going to catch you.”

Her hair was down tonight, elegantly curled with little sparkles dotting her hair. Magic. Her sister had performed magic. That, plus Ella’s dress… “So beautiful,” I murmured, running a finger over a curl. The most beautiful woman I’d ever seen.

“Cameron…” Her breath caught in her throat as she fisted the lapels of my jacket, pulling our bodies closer together.

“I love you.” I rested my forehead against hers. “Just in case you forgot.”

She giggled. “How could I? You only tell me every day.”

“Just reminding you of your place.”

“And what’s that?”

“Mine.” I leaned in to kiss her soft, pink lips—but she put her hand over my mouth.

“Audrey will kill me if I mess up my makeup,” she whispered, and I placed a kiss on her nose.

“I know. I’m not going to.” The mere idea of facing her sister’s wrath sent shivers down my spine. She was all sunshine and smiles—I was terrified to find out what she’d be like angry. “Not till later, anyway.” I gave her a mischievous grin.

She tugged on my bowtie. “After,” Ella agreed, kissing my cheek. “Don’t forget your mask.” She winked and then spun around before leaving me alone in my room.

“I’ll be waiting.”

A Moonlit Masquerade. The theme was fitting, somehow perfectlyEllawhile being elegant and yet understated. The decor wasn’t gaudy or overbearing, but the ceiling twinkled like the night sky and the entire floor was full of sorority girls in formal dresses, dates on their arms, masks on everyone’s faces.

Which meantmygirl was somewhere in this room, wearing her own sparkling ballgown, waiting for me. Why we couldn’t have been a normal couple who showed up together, I didn’t know. Except that then the crowds parted, and standing in the middle of the ballroom, there she was.
