Her attention was the greatest reward she could give me.

“Hi, Cam,” a redhead—Amelia, I was pretty sure her name was—batted her eyelashes at me. She wasn’t from Ella’s sorority, but I knew she was in one of them. I moved a few feet away, still staring at the door.

“Hello,” I said, keeping my face blank, my tone devoid of all emotion as I waited for the blonde, whose presence always made me feel lighter, to walk in to the frat house.

Another body slid up to my other side—a dark-haired girl. Danica? I was pretty sure they were sisters, though I had no idea who was older, just that I’d seen them around before.

“You look lonely,” she said, and I shook my head. Stepping off to the side again.

“I’m just waiting for someone.”

“Maybe…” Amelia started. Her lips were dangerously close to my neck, and it felt slimy. I didn’t want her near me—didn’t like her proximity to me at all. I tried to step back, but the other sister cornered me as well. “We could keep you company while you wait.”

Did they not hear a single word I’d said? “I’m good. Thanks.”

“But—” Danica put her hand on my bicep, and I shrugged it off, pushing away from them.

“I said I’m good. I don’t…” I grit my teeth, my eyes connecting with Ella’s.

When had she gotten here? How much had she seen?

“Ella,” I murmured, walking towards her, but she was faster, bolting out the back door. “Fuck.” I growled the words to no one, heading outside.

When I caught up with her, I grabbed her wrist, pulling her around to face me. “It’s not what it looked like.”

She did her best to look unaffected, but I could see what was bubbling under the surface. “Cam, I… It’s none of my business what you do. It’s not like we’re together.”

“I’m not sleeping with anyone else, Ella.” Grabbing her face, I held it in my hands. “I haven’t. Not since Halloween.”

“Okay,” she breathed out, but she wasn’t making eye contactwith me. It was like she was determined to look anywherebutat me.

“Ella. Look at me.” My voice was rough. I needed her to understand. Needed her to know how much she fucking undid me. How I couldn’t get her out of my thoughts.

When her eyes finally connected with mine, I couldn’t stop myself.

This time, I didn’t ask. This time, I kissed her.

“I’m not fucking sleeping with anyone else. I don’t want to, either.” Leaning in, I held her gaze as I pressed our foreheads together. “There’s been no one but you.”Not since I’d laid eyes on her for the first time.

Pressing my lips to hers, softer this time, I felt some of the anger melt away from her frame.

“I’m not mad at you,” she finally gasped out, her hand curling into my sweatshirt.

“You’re not?” I raised an eyebrow, because it seemed like she was.

“No. I’m mad at myself.” Her cheeks flushed red. “For beingjealous. And them, because they wouldn’t leave you alone. They just—” She let out a huff of anger, which I found surprisingly adorable.

“Hey.” I squeezed her hands. “It’s okay.”

“No. It’s not.” Ella huffed. “Cameron…”

I kissed her again, if for no other reason than to shut her up. Not because I liked the way it felt when her lips were on mine, or I thought I might die without it.

“Hi,” I murmured when she finally looked me in the eye.

“Hi.” Her forehead connected with my chest. “I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”

A chuckle escaped from my lips. “Nothingis wrong with you. You’re perfect.” I meant it, too. “Are you feeling better?” I’d been concerned all week. Had she eaten enough? Taken her meds?
