The only reason why I don’t give the order to gun him and his vintage Rolls Royce down is because he’s right—now is the worst time to draw attention from the police.

What has me on edge is the sudden realization that I don’t know Raizo as well as I thought I did—and I sure as hell never fathomed how far his greed would go.

There are many things I’ve done and will probably do in my life. Terrible things. Unforgivable things.

But my God, there are limits even for men like me.

And the fact that Raizo doesn’t have them makes him far more dangerous than any of us can afford to fuck with.

“Double up security. Pull in guards from each location and set a rotation for every half hour.”

Bambi scrambles to keep up with me, both physically and on her tablet. She met me at the door after Raizo left and now, she’s tripping over her sandals to match my furious pace. “I take it that went well.”

“He’s a sick fuck.” I’m doing my best to not vomit the bourbon every time his final words echo in my head. “And he’s unpredictable. Those two things are a deadly combination.”

The first place I beeline for is Willow’s room. She’s sound asleep in her bed, curled around her doll with a storybook spread face-down on the floor. Clara isn’t in there, which means bedtime went well and Willow must have snuck in one last book before falling asleep.

I can’t help but smile.

And then instantly feel sick to my stomach when Raizo’s “offer” bubbles up in my head again.

“Get a second room set up for her, just in case.” I slowly, silently test the door handle and frown. “And add a better lock on here. Make sure the second room is close enough to get her in within ninety seconds.”

“Want it set up like a panic room? Bolted doors and security feeds and all that?”

I know she’s trying to lighten the mood by being facetious, but I also know she wasn’t there to hear Raizo Watanabe’s disgusting threat. “Yes. Exactly like that. But comfortable and familiar enough that she won’t be too scared.”

Bambi frowns and lowers her stylus. “Dem… what’s going on?”

We’re too close to Clara’s room to have this discussion. Even if she is asleep, one mention of Willow’s name will undoubtedly wake her up.

So I gesture for Bambi to continue walking with me until we’re out of earshot. “Raizo threatened Willow.”

Bambi sucks in a sharp breath. “He doesn’t think she’s here, does he?”

“It’s that fucking AMBER Alert. And he saw the toys, the books…” I want to rip my hair out. “I passed it off as Gloria’s grandkids visiting, but he knows.”

I’m going to murder Martin. Slowly. Painfully. If anything happens to that little girl, I’m going to make him wish for death long before I give it to him.

“So…”

“So he offered to sell her.”

Even in the sliver of moonlight, I can see the blood drain from Bambi’s face. “No. He wouldn’t.”

Every word tastes like bile on my tongue. “He would and he will if he gets an opportunity to grab her. Apparently, there’s no market off-limits to him.”

She thinks on this for a long, tense moment. By the way her own fury and disgust twists her face with each passing second, I’m getting the impression all I need to do is hand her a gun. Raizo won’t stand a chance.

“So what about Clara?”

I hesitate. That’s something I’m not wanting to delve into. “What about her?”

Bambi focuses her glare on her tablet screen as she makes notes of the new panic room specifications. “You’re gonna let her go to that meeting? Even with all these threats?”
