“So, where does that leave us now?” I asked.

“I think it leaves us both intrigued. I want to know more about you. I’m tired of fighting my feelings. So, when can I see you again? Are you going out with me tomorrow or not?” Chase asked, as he leaned over the table. His lips hovered just inches above mine. I had to fight the urge not to close the gap between us and crash my lips to his.

“I work at ten tomorrow morning. Is that soon enough?” I asked, in a playful and seductive voice.

“Trust me, I watch you when you’re working. The only good idea Jim ever had was designing those skimpy little outfits he calls a uniform. You look sexy as hell in yours,” Chase said, as he still lingered next to my lips. “But that’s not what I mean. I want to see you like this. Fun. Carefree. Honest.” He stopped and leaned over again, his lips inches from my ear as his hot breath caressed my cheek. “I want to see you in my bed. I want to see every inch of you.”

Before I knew what I was doing, the words just slipped out of me. “How about this time tomorrow night? You can show me around Vegas.”

Moving back, Chase leaned back in his seat and smiled. “Perfect.”

We sat there a little longer, and I noticed Chase nod toward someone. He saw my eyes following his.

“That’s Grey; he helps with security. He works around here, but sometimes, I swear it’s like the guy leads a double life,” he half-laughed.

I was intrigued as I watched the hot guy with dirty-blond hair walk through the busy halls. Heads all turned as he walked, but he kept his eyes searching, like he was looking for someone or something.

“Is the mob that intense here?” I asked.

Chase shot his eyes at me. “Yes, never let your guard down in Vegas. There are several organized crime groups around here, and some local authorities even work with them. But Rossi is the worst I’ve seen in a while. He’s diabolical and finds ways to get inside casinos just like this. I’m always on guard,” Chase stated.

I thought about this for a minute. I wondered what other drama might be lurking around the corner here.

Finishing his beer, Chase watched me down the rest of mine before he asked for the check.

When we left, he placed his hand on my lower back and led me to the elevators. “What floor are you staying on?” he asked.

“How do you know I’m staying here?” I inquired.

Turning to me, Chase smiled. “I’ve asked around,” he said.

“Seventh floor,” I stated.

“Good to know. I live on the eighth floor. It’s nice to know you’ll be under me.”

My air caught in my lungs as his words tore through me. Spencer Chase was wildly wicked, and I knew I was getting myself into trouble. I should have known better, but what the hell?

As we stepped onto the elevator, I watched his face as he punched in the numbers. I bit my lip and dug my nails into my side to keep from grabbing his face and kissing him. When the doors finally opened, I slowly exited the elevator.

“Good night.” I waved, as I walked to my room.

“Night. Remember, if you need anything, I’m right beneath you,” Chase said with a smirk.

I watched the door of the elevator close, and I stood there for too long. Damn, I was in deep.

CHAPTER 12

The next day seemed to last forever. After working in the morning and heading over to campus to schedule my classes, I spent an hour showering and getting myself ready for my date with Chase. I replayed the night over and over in my mind until I swear I had it memorized. Chase had made me come, and it had been incredible. He was a wild card, and I liked the game. While I was still a little embarrassed at how easily he could get into my panties, I secretly enjoyed it. I wasn’t ready to tell Avery what I had let him do. Part of me worried that she may judge me. Another part of me worried that I would allow my shame to take over, and I wouldn’t see him again. Plus, I liked having my own secret. It made the moment with Chase that much hotter.

While I was still a mix of emotions, Avery seemed to be excited for me. We both knew I couldn’t allow myself to get wrapped up in Chase. I had to focus on my dream and then someday, when I was sure I would be safe, I could find love.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” Avery asked, while she curled a thick strand of my hair.

After selecting a black strapless dress that flowed down to my knees, Avery offered to fix my hair and makeup for me. Sighing, we both gazed at my reflection in the mirror. It was clear from the longing look in both of our eyes that we both wished I could pursue something with Chase. Well, if he was even interested in that. I mean, I could be dreaming up a relationship that may never even be able to exist anywhere but in my fantasies.

“Avery, I know this is dumb to let myself get caught up with Chase, but I have to live too. I’ve spent so much time hiding and running. I just want to enjoy the little time I’ll have with him,” I said, as Avery set the curling iron down on the bathroom vanity.

“I know,” Avery said, as she forced a smile. “You deserve to be happy,” she finished.
