“Please, come in.” I move out of the way. I don’t have to guide him to my kitchen since, aside from my bedroom and the bathroom, my apartment is an open space.

“Don’t mind if I do.” He steps in, stripping off his jacket and taking a second to slip his boots off to put them on the mat next to the door.

There goes another piece of me.

He pauses for a second, the bags suspended in the air when he clocks the bottle of wine. “Drinking your dinner?” A brow arches when he looks at me.

I can only shrug. I don’t feel like I need to justify anything to him. I’m a grown woman capable of keeping myself alive.

“Glad I decided our first date would be me making you dinner,” he teases as he sets the bags down.

“Y-You’re making dinner?”

Chase can cook?

I have a hard time believing this new piece of information. After being around all the girls he was with and the gossip they shared, I never once heard them say a single thing about his ability to cook.

He laughs. “Don’t sound so disbelieving.”

I move around the island and pull out one of the barstools to watch him. “I didn’t say anything.” I raise my hands. “I’ll gladly hand over my kitchen if that means I don’t have to cook.”

He leans in, bracing his strong arms against my countertop. A thrill runs through me at his intense look. He makes me want to strip out of the heavier clothes I just put on.

I have to break the moment and top off my wine.

“Would you like a glass?”

“Just point me in the direction of the glasses and where your pots and pans are,” he answers.

I point to where he can find everything he needs and sit back to watch him get to work. The skills he displays while making us a quick but delicious-smelling dinner has me in awe. If I had known he was this talented in the kitchen, I might not have tried to run away from him.

No, I still would have.

The fact I don’t like to cook should have nothing to do with any of this.

He cuts and fries at the same time he mixes and starts to dish out. Who knew a man could multitask and look sexy doing so?

“Here you go.” He slides a full plate to me while dishing up his own.

“Thank you.” I’m shocked by how much food he has put on my plate. “I don’t know if I’ll be able to eat all of this,” I admit as I pick up my fork and start to eat, not feeling any form of shyness when he takes a seat next to me.

“Then I’ll wrap it up for you to have tomorrow.” He smiles around his mouth full of food.

Once more, another piece of my firm wall crumbles away. This isfartoo good to be true. This can’t possibly be the same Chase Thorne who was a complete jackass to me in school. When he went away, he must have gotten a personality transplant because as we sit here eating and drinking, he makes me smile and laugh more than any other man has ever done.

“That was delicious. Thank you.”

“Same back at ya, Angie.” He winks at me as I rinse off my plate. “The food was delicious as well.”

“Stop it.” I chide, carefully bending over to put my dishes in the dishwasher.

I turn around about to say something when the words die on my tongue. Bracing my hands on the edge of the counter, my heaving chest is almost touching his. The enigmatic glow of his eyes pierces me. I’m hungry all over again.

“I won’t stop it, not when you finally let me in, not ever.” I don’t get a chance to speak once again when his mouth captures mine.

This must be a regular thing for him. This way, women can’t argue with him and just give in. Or maybe it’s just me. I hope it’s just me. It would definitely earn him some points with my heart and head because when his lips are against mine and his body is near me, the whole world fades away.
